Walt Disney suffers massive hack that leaves unreleased projects and internal Slack messages leaked

Private conversations from Walt Disney’s internal Slack collaboration system have been leaked online.

The hacker published internal messages about Disney’s advertising campaigns, the studio’s patented technology and even job applicants.

According to Friday’s blog post, the hacking group NullBulge has published data from thousands of Disney Slack channels, saying they have exposed more than 1 terabyte of Disney data.

Based on a blog post from the hacker group, proprietary computer code and details about unreleased projects are among the internal data now public.

The leaked information includes conversations about managing Disney’s corporate website, software development and job candidate evaluations, with data dating back to at least 2019, according to a Wall Street Journal report Monday.

“Disney is investigating this matter,” a company spokesperson said in an emailed statement to Reuters.

The hacker collective NullBulge describes itself as a hacktivist group that advocates for the rights of creative artists. According to them, the group has chosen targets like Disney to protest the companies’ mistreatment of their workers.

A NullBulge spokesperson said in an online post, according to the Journal, that the company specifically targeted Disney “because of its handling of artist contracts, its approach to AI and its (sic) pretty blatant disregard for the consumer.”
