Simmering tensions between Sydney FC and the Sydney Roosters could soon boil over after the Sky Blues covered a brand sign from the 2019 NRL premieres at Allianz Stadium.

When Sydney FC hosted Melbourne Victory in their A-League season opener on October 8, club officials used a tarp to temporarily erase the Tricolors’ presence on match day as spectators made their way to the revamped $874 million venue.

Despite the NRL being off-season, the decision went down like a lead balloon at Roosters headquarters, with CEO Joe Kelly calling Sydney FC chief Adam Santo to express his dismay at the ‘stunt’.

“I told him what they had done was the equivalent of vandalism,” Kelly said earlier this week.

“I also told him we would look into our legal options…then he (Santo) hung up.”

Rooster supremo Nick Politis labeled Sydney FC 'close-minded' after the A-League club used a tarp to temporarily erase the Tricolors' presence at Allianz Stadium on October 8.

It prompted a furious rooster supremo Nick Politis to contact Venues NSW, where he made his feelings known.

Politis also labeled Sydney FC’s matchday behavior as “close-minded” before adding that the NRL club has a “contract where signage is part of that agreement”.

“Sydney FC don’t understand,” Politis told the Daily Telegraph. ‘They just have a ground lease.

“We have been on this three-stadium ground for 86 years. How long have they been there?

“The tarpaulin was horrible… we paid for our own facilities and we pay rent for the space we use.”

When the Daily Mail Australia contacted them for a right to reply, Sydney FC officials chose not to start a ‘war of words’ with Politis and the Roosters.

The Daily TelegramThe piece on the two rival sports feuds featured a depiction of how the Roosters’ board was supposedly badly covered last Saturday with a $152 tarpaulin that looked like it belonged to Bunnings.

That photo was taken before Sydney FC ground crew had time to cover the tarpaulin.

Daily Mail Australia got an accurate picture (pictured above) of how the board was actually covered for the match.

In addition, media reports of Sydney FC ‘demanding’ the roosters’ sign not to be visible on match day are also inaccurate.

Sydney FC’s next home game at Allianz Stadium is against Adelaide United on Sunday, October 23.
