Young Aussie exposes why Australia will go cashless soon

A young woman’s confusion over what to do with cash has reignited the debate over whether Australia should become a cashless society.

Jazmin Hermione, 19, from Gold Coast, was left with $10 from a sale on Facebook Marketplace but didn’t know what to do with the money.

“What do we do with cash these days?” she asked in a video earlier this month.

‘Where the hell do I put this? What am I supposed to do with this?’

“Am I really going to go to the bank and deposit $10? Am I going to spend it?”

Mrs. Hermione explained that she normally only carries her phone, which she uses to pay.

“I never carry a handbag, honestly I don’t even know if I have one,” she said.

Commentators were shocked by Ms Hermione’s confusion and said her video was a sign that Australia will soon be going cashless.

“Wow, this is the end. If a generation is wondering what to do with cash, you can bet a cashless society is coming,” one person wrote.

“You do know you can buy things with cash, right?” said another.

“Is this really a question?” wrote another.

Mrs. Hermione didn’t expect such a negative reaction to her video and said that she and her friends often struggle to spend the money they receive wisely.

“I was actually quite surprised by the reactions because I don’t think anyone, at least at my age, uses cash and often my friends have the same problem,” she said. Yahoo Finance.

‘…I always use ApplePay, so my card is on my phone. So I don’t have to carry a wallet or even a bag.’

Fortunately, some commentators gave Miss Hermione some helpful suggestions.

‘Keep it for emergencies like when eftpos goes down or stores only accept cash. I always keep cash for situations like this,’ said one.

“I just leave it in the car or on my nightstand until I need cash,” wrote another.

Another suggested, “Put it in a jar and when you get more money you can put the whole amount in, or you can treat yourself now!”

Mrs. Hermione liked the last suggestion best and went to fill a money box.

“I don’t know exactly what I’m going to use the can of money for. Maybe for the vacation I want to take next year. I just know it’s something fun,” she said.
