Dr. Ronny Jackson reveals Trump’s ear wound continues to bleed and will require a bandage for a few days at the convention – but says Trump is ‘joking around’ about the bullet that could have ‘gone right through his brain’

Dr. Ronny Jackson rushed to Bedminster, New Jersey to visit Donald Trump after Saturday’s assassination attempt. Now he reports that his ear wound is still bleeding, but that it should heal nicely.

The Texas lawmaker told DailyMail.com that Trump’s injury is still bleeding from time to time and that he needs a bandage, which the former president may have to wear for a few more days, even though the Republican convention has already begun.

Jackson, who worked as a White House physician during the Trump years, said he flew to the president’s golf course to visit Trump after Saturday’s horrific shooting.

“I just came because we’re friends. I wanted to be there,” he told DailyMail.com. “We were just hanging out.” He spent time with Trump in a personal capacity, but that didn’t stop him from conducting a full assessment of his injury and his state of mind after an incident that could easily have ended his life. Now, Trump and Jackson are both in Milwaukee.

Jackson revealed that Trump’s ear continues to bleed occasionally, partly because there is so much blood flowing to the ear. He said the wound will be bandaged for at least a few more days.

“He took the piece of his ear off, you know, your ear bleeds like crazy. But he’s OK. Because luckily it was just his ear,” he said at the Fiserve Center hours before the convention was set to begin.

Dr. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas) tells DailyMail.com after visiting Trump that the former president will likely wear an ear bandage for a few days and that the gunshot wound did not require stitches. He said he expects it to heal well

Trump opted not to have stitches, he said. “No, he didn’t stitch it up because it wasn’t really amenable to stitching, because it was a bullet. It looked more like a track, you know. So they’re just going to have to let it heal, you know,” said the Texas native, who has become a Trump surrogate and a vocal critic of President Joe Biden.

“It’s going to look good once it’s filled in and everything is right,” he predicted.

Trump’s use of the bandage has more to do with the ear itself than the severity of the wound, he said, even though even a short distance would have caused a catastrophic injury.

He is probably [keep the bandage in place] because it’s also very pliable, and it bleeds very easily. The ear is just very vascular, and if you irritate it a little bit, it just starts bleeding again. So when it bleeds, it goes everywhere. So he has a bandage on it now. Because he’s bleeding, so yeah.

He indicated that it would stay in place for a few days.

Jackson also commented on Trump’s state of mind. “He’s great. The staff is still a little shaken up. But he’s perfectly normal,” he said.

“I mean, he’s just being himself. He’s joking around and talking about how if he hadn’t turned his head, you know, at that exact moment, it would have gone through his mind and he realizes, you know, the seriousness of it, but he’s not upset by it at all.”

Trump said he plans to rewrite his convention speech, and both Trump and President Joe Biden called for unity — Biden did so in a call from the Oval Office.

That doesn’t mean Jackson plans to back down from his criticism of what he calls Biden’s cognitive issues. Asked what he’ll talk about, he said, “Probably Biden’s cognitive issues. Seems like my territory,” he joked.

He said the call for unity was “fine.”

“But we can’t ignore that. We have a president, he doesn’t have to be a president, you know,” he said. “I didn’t rewrite my speech.”
