Netherlands fans bizarrely ‘fight EACH OTHER’ during Euro 2024 semi-final defeat by England’ as ‘violence spills out in Dortmund fan zone’

Violent scenes broke out on Wednesday evening after England’s Euro 2024 semi-final win over the Netherlands, but it was groups of fans cheering on the same country who clashed in the fan zone.

Dortmund donned a lot of orange shirts for the match as Dutch fans showed their iconic support in the German city. But tempers quickly flared after the defeat, as can be seen in images on social media.

Police are determined to crack down on fan violence during the German league, but there have also been occasional street violence involving English fans.

Dutch supporters in the fan zone were dealt a painful defeat when Ollie Watkins came on as a substitute in the 90th minute to score the winning goal for the Three Lions.

Thanks to his goal, England are in the final of the European Championship for the second year in a row. A meeting with Spain on Sunday will determine who will be the champion.

Fans without tickets are encouraged to watch the match in Germany via official fan zones. Thousands of people gathered to watch the match, but fights broke out in a small group.

The strange thing was that it was Dutch supporters who were fighting each other and blows were being exchanged while the match was taking place in the background.

Drinks were also thrown during the fight, while others nearby tried to calm the sudden outbreak, some watching for fear of being caught up in it.

Violent scenes broke out on the streets of Dortmund earlier in the day, when five England fans were injured after a series of attacks.

British police had previously warned that there were groups of ‘risk supporters’ among the 80,000 Dutch supporters who came to the German city. They also warned English fans to seek refuge in areas where there were heavy police presence.

Several Dutch fans were arrested and taken away by police after clashes. Heavy police security had to be deployed as the violence threatened to escalate.

England fans travelling to Berlin on Sunday will be hoping for similar scenes as an even heavier police presence is expected in the German capital ahead of the tournament final.

The Three Lions are expected to be cheered on by thousands of travelling supporters, who will be hoping to make history as the men’s national team bids to win a major international trophy for the first time since 1966.
