Football fans are still divided over their views on the interaction between Adam Simpson and superstar midfielder Harley Reid after the head coach was sacked by the West Coast Eagles on Tuesday.
As Simpson prepared to speak to the waiting media, he made a comment towards Reid, ruckman Bailey Williams and AFLW coach Daisy Pearce as he walked past CEO Don Pyke and chairman Paul Fitzpatrick.
Some supporters felt Simpson told Reid, “You must stay,” while others insisted he said, “You’ve had your say.”
As many on social media noted, Reid appeared stunned — and fans noticed Pearce’s reaction, too.
“Daisy Pearce is looking at Bailey Williams like an angry mother,” said one supporter on X.
Another post on Reddit: ‘Daisy Pearce’s reaction was clearly shock… and he [Simpson] absolutely said ‘you’ve had your say’.
“Daisy’s reaction is telling. She turns to Reid and she doesn’t laugh or smile,” a third replied.
Reid, 19, thanked Simpson for making his AFL debut this season before criticizing the Western Australian newspaper for negative coverage of the Premiership-winning coach.

Simpson was relieved of his duties on Tuesday after a tough season for West Coast, with just three wins so far in 2024
He wasn’t alone in his thinking. Supporters were scathing about the publication’s front page, which focused on Simpson’s recent poor win-loss record rather than his Premier League triumph.
“That’s disgusting,” one person said in a comment that resonated with many supporters.
Simpson had also criticized the newspaper for what he saw as its relentless criticism.
‘I couldn’t thank this guy enough for what he did. [sic] “I have done something in such a short time in my career,” Reid wrote in a Instagram story.
“One of the best people who ever did it and had to endure so much crap.”
The teenager’s post included a red heart and two photos from home games at Optus Stadium showing the two talking.
Simpson, who was head coach of the West Coast club for 11 years, has been offered a farewell match against Brisbane on home soil next Sunday after his dismissal.
Simpson has rejected the offer, but the club said he ‘will be involved in the procedures leading to the initial transfer’.
