Why Farmer Wants A Wife axed its 2025 gay couple despite fans calling for an LGBTQIA+ storyline: ‘It’s not for lack of trying’

Fans of Farmer Wants A Wife have been calling for an LGBTQIA+ storyline on Channel Seven’s matchmaking show for years.

But this week they were disappointed again when the list of eight eligible bachelors for 2025 once again consisted of heterosexual men.

A network insider has revealed that it was “not a conscious move by the producers” to cut the diverse storyline.

“There was intense discussion about whether Farmer Wants A Wife would have a diversity aspect to the next season of the popular dating show, but those plans were scrapped due to a lack of suitable candidates, both from farmers with same-sex attractions and potential love interests,” a source said. Yahoo Lifestyle.

“We know there are strong communities in regional areas and we would love for them to join the long-running show. It’s not for lack of trying.

‘The audition process is quite extensive and although there were a handful of options, the farmers who were ultimately chosen this time around were the most suitable because of their personality.’

The insider went on to say that there is “an unusual imbalance” when it comes to the queer community signing up for reality dating shows in Australia.

Although many people like to participate in series such as Big Brother, The Voice and MasterChef, there is a great shortage of homosexual candidates who feel comfortable in dating programs.

Fans were stunned by the preliminary lineup for the 2025 FWAW season when it was announced last week.

Channel Seven shared the line-up on Instagram, calling on single Australian women to sign up and compete for the hearts of farmers.

Viewers responded en masse to the reactions and criticized the lovelorn heartbreakers who will be on screen next year. Many noted that most of the farmers are quite young, somewhere in their twenties.

‘Where are the adult farmers? Plus 40-55 would fit better with the internal market,’ someone wrote.

β€œWhere are the older farmers in their 40s, 50s and 60s?”, while a third added: β€œWhy does a 20 year old need help finding a wife?” another commented.

β€œOne of 35 and one of 31, the rest are babies… ridiculous! Where are the older farmers??” said someone else.

β€œThey’re too young, how about older farmers?” another commented.

“Young bucks again, decent people no doubt. But where are the grown men of 40 and over?”, one remarked.

Eight handsome singles have been selected for the dating show Seven, but two men have been eliminated from the final selection. Next year, only six farmers will be on screen.

Among the farmers being considered for the role in 2025 is a 29-year-old banana and avocado farmer from Mareeba, Queensland, named Reidy.

Handsome cattle farmer Jack, 26, from Oberon, New South Wales, opens his heart to love in 2025, together with sheep farmer Jarrad, 21, from Stanthorpe, Queensland.

Also in the running for the official cast of 2025 is Corey, a 24-year-old hay and cotton farmer from Biloela, Queensland.

Handsome Jack L, 26, who runs a dairy farm in Railton, Tasmania, has signed up, along with sheep farmer Tom M, 31, from Borambola, New South Wales.

Also looking for love are wheat, barley and lentil farmer Thomas, 35, from Kimba, South Australia, and cattle farmer Chooka, 25, from Goornong, Victoria.

The series is still in pre-production and it remains to be seen which two farmers will be eliminated and which six will enter the picture to begin their search for true love.
