Bowen dog attack: Little girl horrifically mauled, leaving her needing 116 stitches to her face

A six-year-old girl was so badly abused by a dog that she had to be airlifted to a major regional hospital for facial reconstruction and dozens of stitches.

According to a family member, the young girl was attacked last Friday night at a home in the central Queensland coastal town of Bowen.

She was taken to Bowen Hospital by ambulance in stable condition.

Her injuries were so severe that she had to be taken to Townsville University Hospital four hours later for major facial reconstruction, requiring 116 stitches.

The relative told the Townsville Bulletin that the girl’s ‘little face’ would likely need further surgery.

According to the Townsville and Hospital Service, her condition remains stable.

Apparently the dog that attacked the girl has since been put down.

The Whitsunday Regional Council has been contacted for comment.
