A couple who spent nine weeks transforming their new house into a permanent home share their advice on the best things to do when renovating your home.

Partners Jess and Ry documented their journey on TikTok under the name @renovationsatno.3, after purchasing a property in Staffordshire that needed major renovation.

The pair’s initial posts detailed what they had been up to in the four weeks since getting the keys to their home, with photos of them ripping the kitchen to shreds before removing skirting boards, architraves and wardrobes in the master bedroom.

Also unhappy with the condition of the conservatory attached to the house, they decided to demolish it completely, re-wire it and remove the floorboards and joists to install underfloor heating.

To create more space in their new home, the couple decided to replace the garage with a kitchen.

In their main advice to homeowners looking to renovate their homes, they advised that anyone wanting to do so should “stay focused” and “trust the process.”

In a progress update last week on their project, they announced that the plastering had finally begun, but that it had come with a dangerous hurdle: fresh plaster was strewn all over the house.

They had also managed to install downlights and complete the tricky electrical job by fitting and powering all the sockets and light switches.

Jess and Ry continued to develop their home, installing the stairs, fitting a central heating boiler, a front door and having appliances delivered for their kitchen.

Other users commented on the video on TikTok, immediately praising the couple for their extremely fast and efficient work.

One user wrote: ‘I’ve never seen a door handle in the middle before! So interesting, love what you’ve done so far!! Everything looks absolutely beautiful.’

Another said they ‘trust the [work of TikTok’s] algorithm to bring [them] ‘back’ to the couple’s page.

A third responded enthusiastically: ‘Obsessed with this renovation project’.

Another comment said: ‘I’m loving following your journey! It’s looking amazing already. Can’t wait to see more.’
