Interior design group Sanderson posted a 12 percent increase in profits yesterday amid strong demand for its British-inspired homeware in the US.

The wallpaper and furniture seller reported pre-tax profits of £5.5 million for the six months to the end of July, with sales up 0.7 percent to £57.9 million.

Sanderson, who has a partnership with English rugby star Maro Itoje, has done very well in the US, especially with the Morris & Co brand, which creates designs inspired by 19th-century artist William Morris.

But in the UK there are ‘challenges galore’, despite the encouraging performance of its top clients.

As a result, Sanderson chairman Dianne Thompson said it would continue to focus on the North American market.

Shares rose 11.9 percent or 11.5 pence to 108.5 pence.
