Yalyalup crash: Teen driver is killed and passenger seriously injured after Mercedes collides with a bus
A teenage girl has died and her passenger was seriously injured in a horrific crash between a minibus and a car.
A Mercedes sedan collided with a Mitsubishi Rosa minibus at the intersection of Bussell Highway and Tuart Drive in Yalyalup, south of Perth, at 6.30pm on Saturday.
The driver of the Mercedes, an 18-year-old woman, was seriously injured and died at the scene.
Her 17-year-old female passenger was seriously injured and taken by ambulance to Bunbury Regional Hospital.
The driver of the minibus, a 23-year-old man, was uninjured.
Despite recent improvements, the road is a notorious crash hotspot.
In April, a 40-year-old man died at the same intersection after his motorcycle collided with another vehicle.
In March last year, a 69-year-old man died after his motorcycle was hit by a car.
The accident happened at the intersection of Bussell Highway and Tuart Drive in Yalyalup, about 220km south of Perth, at 6.30pm on Saturday evening.
Residents called for the speed limit to be reduced from 70mph to 50mph after a spate of accidents along the Bussell Highway, including the death of a 29-year-old man who was killed when a truck collided with his car.
Major Crash investigators are urging anyone with information about Saturday’s crash to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
