Mulgathing plane crash: Fears for those on board a light plane that crashed in a paddock on remote station

There are fears for those on board a light aircraft that crashed in a field at a remote station, as police and emergency services travel to the scene.

Police received reports that the plane had crashed at Mulgathing, about 200 kilometers southwest of Coober Pedy in South Australia.

The alarm was raised around 9:30 am on Thursday, but details are still unclear.

“Emergency services are on their way to the scene and further details will be provided as they become available,” South Australia Police said.

There is a remote sheep station at Mulgathing, in the South Australian outback, west of the Stuart Highway and near Tarcoola.

The 530,000-hectare station also has an airstrip.

On the website of the station’s operator, Jumbuck Pastoral, an aircraft is used to facilitate ‘gathering’ at the site ‘on the edge of the Great Victorian Desert’.
