Greg Lynn verdict: Robyn Hill’s brutal swipe at ex-Jetstar pilot found guilty of murdering her husband’s secret lover Carol Clay as she opens up about her ‘lonely’ existence

The grieving widow of murdered camper Russell Hill has revealed she will never forgive Greg Lynn and hopes he ‘suffers for the rest of his life’.

Robyn Hill, who was married to 74-year-old Hill for 50 years, was shocked when Lynn was found not guilty of her husband’s murder by a Supreme Court jury on Tuesday.

“I think you feel numb or that his death was in vain because no one will be punished for it,” Ms Hill told Nine News.

But she took solace in the fact that the ex-Jetstar pilot was found guilty of killing Mr Hill’s secret lover, Carol Clay, 73, a verdict she described as a bittersweet relief.

“I really hope he suffers for the rest of his life,” Ms Hill added.

“I hope he has a good time in prison.”

She couldn’t bring herself to look at Lynn in the courtroom during the recent trial.

“No, because I was so nervous,” she said.

Greg Lynn (pictured) had pleaded not guilty to the murders, but after seven days of deliberation the twelve-person jury found him guilty of the murder of Carol Clay, but not guilty of the murder of Russell HIll.

The stoic widow, who discovered her husband had continued his affair when she learned of his death, admitted she missed him.

“It’s lonely because you don’t have anyone to talk to,” Ms. Hill said.

“I can’t ask him anything because he’s not there.”

Despite her husband’s infidelity being exposed during the trial, Mrs Hill insisted she bore no grudge against his secret lover.

“She was a very nice lady, I have nothing against Carol,” she said.

Ms Hill said she hoped Lynn would spend 25 years in prison as she eagerly awaits his sentence.

He will appear in court again on July 19.

Meanwhile, Lynn’s wife Melanie and his son were in no mood to talk when Channel Nine visited their home on Wednesday and drove away in a car.

Lynn faces life behind bars for the murder of Mrs. Clay.

Mr Hill and Ms Clay – childhood sweethearts who rekindled their relationship later in life – disappeared after camping in the Wonnangatta Valley, in Victoria’s Alpine region, in March 2020.

Lynn had denied being guilty of the murders, but after seven days of deliberations the jury of twelve found him guilty of the murder of Mrs Clay, but not guilty of the murder of Mr Hill.

The Hill and Clay families released a joint statement on the split verdict, describing the innocent decision as “devastating.”

“The verdict of not guilty in relation to the murder of Russell Hill is devastating. “There was not enough evidence to be sure how he died,” the statement said.

“Our families were always aware that the prosecution had a huge burden of proof because there were no eyewitnesses. The suspect was the only one who saw and experienced what happened. He was also the only person to make it out alive.

“We are heartbroken by the loss of our loved ones. It will take time to absorb the statements, put this behind us and get to work on healing and moving on with our lives.”

The jury heard that Mr Hill was Ms Clay’s first boyfriend, but he started dating again in 2006 while they were both married to other people.

During the massive trial, Mrs. Hill was questioned about her long-term relationship with her husband, whom she married in 1969.

Mrs Hill told the court she and her husband would go on holiday to Phillip Island with Mrs Clay and her then husband, unaware of their secret relationship.

She told the court that she had known Mrs. Clay as long as her husband, who had told her that Mrs. Clay was her cousin.

It was a lie that Mrs. Hill only discovered after watching her husband and Mrs. Clay behave “strangely,” such as going for walks together on those outings.

The secret relationship eventually came to a head when a neighbor threatened to reveal Mr. Hill’s behavior to his wife.

The court heard that Mr Hill confessed to the relationship but assured his wife he would end the affair immediately – a lie he maintained until his alleged murder.

Full statement from the victims’ families on the verdict

The families of Russell Hill and Carol Clay are both relieved and devastated by today’s verdicts in the trial of Gregory Lynn for the murders of Russell Hill and Carol Clay.

The jury has only reached a verdict on murder in one case: that of Carol Clay.

The guilty plea was the only charge. The possibility of a conviction for ‘manslaughter’ was ruled out. We thank the jury for finding them guilty of the murder of Carol Clay. It was an extremely difficult task as the suspect had destroyed so much evidence.

The verdict of innocence in the murder of Russell Hill is devastating. There wasn’t enough evidence to be sure how he died.

Our families were always aware that the prosecution had a huge burden of proof because there were no eyewitnesses. The suspect was the only one who saw and experienced what happened. He was also the only person to make it out alive.

We sincerely thank the Crown Prosecutors for their diligent efforts in presenting the preliminary investigation and trial. They had a Herculean job putting together a case with limited evidence. They fought hard to have all their evidence admitted in court so that the jury could make an informed decision, but this was not the case.

We would also like to thank the Victoria Police Missing Persons Unit, in particular Detective Inspector Andrew Stamper and Sergeant Brett Florence for their tireless investigative work over four and a half years. They have done their utmost to resolve this case and we sincerely thank them for their time, effort, perseverance, care and professionalism in providing us with answers.

For the wider Victoria Police involvement, thank you, we have appreciated the efforts of all of you and are extremely grateful for your expertise, hard work and support. In addition, we thank all the wonderful volunteers who spent weeks searching for our loved ones.

Finally, the families of Carol Clay and Russell Hill would like to thank all our friends and family who have provided their support during this harrowing experience over the past four years.

We are heartbroken by the loss of our loved ones. It will take time to absorb the statements, put this behind us and start healing and moving on with our lives. At this time we ask that you please respect our privacy while we do this.

On behalf of both,

The Hill Family and the Clay Family
