Now Trump’s campaign compares Biden to Captain America and says he will be ‘filled with Adderall’ for the debate, but won’t reveal if Melania will accompany the former president
- Trump and his allies have said without evidence that Biden will use stimulants
- Trump will announce possible family guests on Thursday
Donald Trump’s presidential campaign continues to double down on accusations that President Biden will be boosted with stimulants during Thursday’s debate as they try to raise expectations by comparing him to a superhero.
“He’ll probably be full of Adderall, just like the night of the State of the Union. It will be a stark contrast,” Chris LaCivita, a senior adviser to Trump’s campaign, said on a call with reporters, without providing evidence.
“We know from Joe Biden that after taking a whole week off, he will be ready for this now. I don’t know if it will quite be on the level where Steve Rogers comes in and comes out of Captain America. But his team will have him ready,” said senior advisor Jason Miller.
Those comments come after Trump suggested at a campaign rally that Biden might use stimulants to “get pumped up” for the debate and questioned what happened to the cocaine discovered at the entrance to the White House.
“So, a little bit before the debate, he gets a chance – they want to make him stronger so he comes out, he comes out, okay, I’m saying he’s going to come out all jacked up, right? ? All hyped up,” Trump said at a campaign rally in Philadelphia on Saturday.
Former President Donald Trump has discussed President Biden’s abilities after previously mocking him as the two prepare to face off in a debate on Thursday evening
Miller complained during the call about the “expectations being set in the media” and said Biden shouldn’t get a “participation trophy” if he showed up.
But it is Trump who has argued for months that Biden “can’t put two sentences together” — raising questions about whether Trump and his allies are trying to adjust expectations in case Biden is more coherent than millions of viewers expected. are.
It comes in a race where the president and former president who meet on stage are tied in the new New York Times polling average.
Miller dredged up old headlines from Biden’s past debates against former House Speaker Paul Ryan and former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as Barack Obama’s running mate, with one calling it an “alpha male” and another citing a poll which showed that he had won.
One question the campaign could not answer was whether former first lady Melania or other Trump family members would be with the candidate in Atlanta. “I would expect that we will probably make our announcement during the debate,” Miller said.
The Trump campaign continues to criticize President Biden’s State of the Union performance
Trump has made a splash in the past by bringing high-profile guests who could potentially upset his opponent. That included Bill Clinton rape accusers in 2016, and a former business associate of Hunter Biden in 2020.
When asked whether Trump would bring relatives of Americans killed by immigrants who came here illegally, Trump’s team said the debate format without an audience would not allow that, although his advisers thought it was a good idea.
When asked whether family members would appear before the media in the ‘turning room’ after the debate, they did not want to answer immediately.
“I would expect that we will probably announce who all will be at the debate with President Trump on Thursday or sooner, if not sooner,” Miller said.
