An armed man has been shot dead by police outside a restaurant in South Brisbane.
The man – in his twenties – is known to have been shot several times after threatening officers around 3 p.m.
The courier post report that the man pulled out a knife before being fatally shot by police.
Police said in a statement that the man died on the spot.
“Preliminary information indicates that the police were called to Edmonstone Street, South Brisbane about 3pm in connection with a man’s behaviour,” the statement said.
“After a brief interaction with the officers, it is understood that he threatened them and was shot.
“The man died on the spot.”

The man in his twenties is known to have been shot several times shortly after 3 p.m. at The Greek Club restaurant in South Brisbane.
Police have declared Edmonstone St between Russell and Melbourne streets a crime scene and the roads are expected to remain closed for several hours.
Witnesses report hearing multiple gunshots and screams outside The Greek Club restaurant.
One person told Courier Mail police that the man had been shot in the stomach.
“Our manager was outside when he heard the shots and then yelled ‘everyone down,'” she said.
“We all hid in an office for about ten minutes because we thought it was a crazed gunman.”
