The UFC has confirmed it will return to Australia for the first time since 2019, with organizers promising a headliner for the title fight and a stacked card for the February 12 event in Perth.

UFC boss Dana White confirmed the news on Tuesday that UFC 284 will take place at the RAC Arena in Perth.

“Australia, we’re back,” White said.

“I’m so excited we’re returning to Perth for UFC 284 – it was a great host city in 2018 and in February we’ll be bringing a stacked card headlined a championship fight.”

“Australian fans are some of the best in the world and have been waiting for this for a long time. I can’t wait to put on another huge show for them. See you there.’

“There is an event coming to Australia,” he told media in August.

“I’ll leave it at that, it won’t be too far away, we all know I want to defend the title and fight in front of my home crowd.

“I’ll be on that map when that happens.”

Perth local Jack Della Maddalena is also tipped to hit the map in February. Maddalena, 26, previously impressed in the Dana White Contender Series to earn a contract, before winning back-to-back first round TKO in the octagon.

Western Sydney’s Tai Tuivasa is one of the most popular fighters in the sport and recently posted on Instagram that he has an upcoming fight announcement.

The timing may be right for his return to the Octagon after his clash with Ciryl Gane in early September.

Perth last hosted a UFC event in 2018 when Curtis Blaydes Mark Hunt . defeated in a heavyweight bout, while Yoel Romero knocked out Luke Rockhold after controversially missing weight.

UFC 251 was set to take place in Perth in June 2020 only because the COVID-19 pandemic would force the event’s cancellation.

“We are absolutely thrilled to finally be returning to Australia,” said Peter Kloczko, UFC Vice President of Australia and New Zealand.

“Our athletes, fans and partners have had tremendous patience to host another UFC event on Australian soil.”
