According to reports, David Beckham is keen to sign Raphael Varane from Inter Miami this summer following the defender’s departure from Manchester United.

Varane, 31, left Old Trafford after his contract expired at the end of the season and remains a free agent as several clubs consider making a move for him.

According to The mirrorThe centre-back has been asked if he would join Inter Miami, joining both Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Barcelona greats Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba are also at the Chase Stadium after being lured to the United States to join Beckham’s star-studded franchise.

Varane moved from Real Madrid to United in July 2021 for an initial fee of £34 million and made 93 appearances, but left amicably after a series of injuries.

He is said to have cost the Red Devils £85 million in transfer fees and salaries during his three campaigns, during which he made just 68 Premier League appearances.

But despite this, Beckham is said to be willing to hand the former France international another hefty reward in his bid to boost the profile of his Florida-based club.

Inter Miami are top of the MLS table after 20 games and could sign Varane outside the transfer window, which is open from July 18 to August 14.

Varane proved a popular figure during his time at United, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 before lifting the FA Cup in his final appearance for the club last season.

Ahead of the 2-1 win against Manchester City at Wembley, he had confirmed he would be leaving in an emotional video message to supporters.

“It’s been a great few years playing for this special club and wearing that shirt,” Varane said. ‘The first time I went to Old Trafford as a Manchester United player was crazy, the atmosphere was great.

‘When the fans go to Wembley it is something they will remember for life. To share that moment with them [winning the Carabao Cup] was absolutely wonderful.

‘Although we have had a difficult season, I am very positive about the future.

‘The new owners come with a clear plan and a great strategy. I’ll see you at Old Trafford to say goodbye to the last home game of the season [against Newcastle] and it will certainly be a very emotional day for me.”

Varane spent ten years at Real Madrid, where he won three LaLiga titles, three Champions Leagues, three Spanish Super Cups and the Copa del Rey.
