President Joe Biden is heading to Camp David tonight to hole up with his advisers at the remote mountain resort in preparation for next week’s debate.
With the showdown a week away, Biden, who favors briefing books and practice sessions, will focus on how to hold rival Donald Trump accountable on issues like abortion rights.
He is also expected to practice some verbal zingers to hurl at his rival.
But the 81-year-old president will be under pressure to allay concerns about his age. The Trump campaign has harassed him with recent incidents in which he froze or had to be led off stage. The White House claims the videos were edited to make the president look bad.
Ron Klain, Biden’s former chief of staff, is leading debate preparations for the Biden team. White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients, senior White House advisers Bruce, Reed, Anita Dunn and Mike Donilon and campaign adviser Cedric Richmond will also attend.
Biden will travel to the rustic retreat in the Maryland mountains from his beach house in Rehoboth, Delaware, where he spent the Juneteenth holiday.
