Scottie Scheffler reveals the hilarious reason he refused to sign an autograph before the Travelers Championship
Scottie Scheffler has turned down a fan’s request for an autograph after he was asked to sign a Boston Celtics hat.
Scheffler grew up in Dallas and watched the Mavericks get defeated by Boston in this year’s NBA Finals.
To rub salt in his wounds, the world number 1 is now preparing to play at the Travelers Championship – in New England.
The Texan was asked during a press conference on Wednesday whether he expected trash talk during the tournament in Connecticut.
“I had a fan today ask me to sign a Celtics hat, and I said no,” Scheffler said with a smile. ‘But otherwise little interaction.’

As for whether other players – like Vermont native Keegan Bradley – would roast him, he added: “Probably not other golfers.
“Maybe Keegan (Bradley), but probably not… I wouldn’t really expect that from him.”
Scheffler is hoping to bounce back after a disastrous US Open at Pinehurst, when he narrowly missed the finish.
The world number 1 was a big favorite last week, after taking his fifth victory of the season at the Memorial Tournament a fortnight ago.
But the 27-year-old finished 14 shots behind winner Bryson DeChambeau after recording his fifth consecutive over-par round.
“I didn’t think much about it when I shot under par, so I’m probably not going to think about it too much when I shoot over par,” he said.
“It’s just one of those deals, like when I played well and was able to survive the tougher golf courses. It’s just kind of (one of) those weird little statistics. It’s not like I played that bad and shot over par.’
