Celebrity gossip columnist Perez Hilton says he hopes Justin Timberlake’s arrest will act as an “ego check” for the superstar after “decades of skating through life.”
On Tuesday, news hit the Internet that the former NSYNC member, 43, had been taken into custody for drunken driving in the exclusive Hamptons enclave of Sag Harbor.
Now media personality Perez, 46, has spoken out about the scandal against Dan Abrams NewsNation.
He believes the hitmaker has emerged unscathed from ‘tough situations’ for most of his career because of his famous name – and that this should be an eye-opener for him.
“I think what we’re seeing is an ego check,” he told the publication. “He’s been able to skate through life and tough situations for decades because he’s Justin Timberlake, because he’s rich and handsome and white and a man.”

Law enforcement sources report this TMZ that the sexy backup crooner was arrested shortly after midnight on Tuesday.
Police reportedly saw him blow past a stop sign and saw him crossing the road.
The father of two failed a sobriety test and was handcuffed and arrested, according to a police report. At the station he refused to take a breath test.
According to Page sixthe arresting officer “was so young, he didn’t even know” who the singer was.
“He didn’t recognize him or his name,” an insider told the publication, while a second source added, “Justin quietly said, ‘This is going to ruin the tour.’ The agent replied, “What tour?” Justin said, ‘The world tour.'”
Perez also said it “wouldn’t shock me if Justin Timberlake has driven drunk before.”
“And I wasn’t surprised that his friends weren’t more adamant that he shouldn’t be driving,” Perez continued.
“What we’ve seen in recent years is that what used to work for him no longer works for him, both professionally and personally.”
The blogger said he was “surprised” that Justin had not yet “released a statement” about the incident, adding that admitting his mistake would “go a long way.”

The blogger said he was “surprised” that Justin had not yet “issued a statement” about the incident, adding that admitting his mistake would “go a long way.”
On Tuesday morning, Justin was led by police officers across the bridge from the Sag Harbor Police Department to the Village Courthouse, in exclusive photos obtained by DailyMail.com.
The musician appeared shocked as he looked straight ahead and was handcuffed.
After a brief arraignment that banned him from driving in New York for a year, he was released without bail and emerged from court wearing a baseball cap.
He was charged with driving while intoxicated, ignoring a stop sign and failure to stay in his lane. He will appear in court on July 26.
Justin has has admitted to using illegal substances numerous times over the years.
In 2006, he admitted to secretly “getting plastered” and “doing his fair share of drugs,” even saying he thought he might one day be arrested for it.
“I’ve never been arrested… but that doesn’t mean I won’t,” the pop star revealed at the time.
‘I’m just like everyone else: I get completely plastered, I’ve done quite a bit of drugs and I’ve been caught with my pants down. I’m just making sure there are no cameras around.’

Afterward, Justin apologized for his “lapse in judgment” but insisted nothing happened between them.
“A few weeks ago I made a strong error of judgment, but let me be clear: nothing happened between me and my co-star,” he emphasized in a statement on Instagram.

Perez previously defended Justin after facing a wave of backlash following the publication of Britney Spears’ memoir.
In the tome, Britney, who dated Justin from 1999 to 2002, accused him of cheating and claimed she had an abortion because Justin was “not ready” to be a father.
Afterwards, Perez pointed out that Justin had already apologized to Britney and that “he’s not that person anymore.”
“The people who don’t like Justin Timberlake are not going to continue to like him, and I think his fans are going to continue to like him and understand that this was over 20 years ago and he’s not that person anymore,” he said.
