AFL star Christian Petracca makes stunning girlfriend admission following horrific internal injuries
- Petracca tells his girlfriend to help him with simple tasks
- Says he can’t even put on his socks without her help
- Suffered a seasonal rupture of his spleen
Melbourne midfielder Christian Petracca has revealed he needs his girlfriend Bella to help him with basic daily tasks after undergoing surgery for shocking injuries including a ruptured spleen.
The 28-year-old is recovering at home after surgery to repair four broken ribs, a punctured lung and a ruptured spleen suffered in a marking match during the King’s Birthday loss to Collingwood.
The footy star is still in isolation due to the risk of infection, with only Bella and Petracca’s parents allowed to visit him.
“I’m literally not allowed to do anything,” he said.
‘The spleen is an essential part of the immune system, so I had to have all my vaccinations redone. Bell had to do everything: put me to bed, put my socks on, give me all my medicine, cook me dinner.”

Petracca controversially returned to the field after being injured, before being taken off for good at half-time.
‘I don’t think people understand when you’re playing, you just want to go out and compete as an athlete, as a competitor… you’re on adrenaline, you don’t really know what’s going on, when I Now I If I knew the seriousness of it, I obviously wouldn’t have gone out again,” Petracca explained on Monday.
“At the time, I thought and we thought it was a broken rib, a couple of broken ribs, I wanted to go out and play and compete.”
The 2021 Norm Smith medalist said Moore had been contacted several times since the collision at the weekend to check on his condition.
‘I watched a bit of football this weekend, I had to turn it off. Even with a simple tackle you put yourself back in the situation you were in. So obviously right now it’s pretty raw,” he said.
“I will be able to get back to the player I was, but at the moment there is a lot of self-doubt, which is fine, it’s a natural feeling.”
Reports have also emerged that Petracca’s family are unhappy with the way the injury has been handled, with AFL reporter Tom Morris explaining that the family are at odds with the club.

The midfielder says he wouldn’t wish injuries on his worst enemy
‘He announced via his own account that he was out for a season before the club did. Probably gives some indication of what he and his family were thinking,” Morris said on SEN.
“Definitely (they were upset) and frustrated at the club. I think it’s more what happened in the days that followed. There was certainly a feeling among the Petracca family that the club could have done things better.”
