Hidden decomposing remains of eight-month-old Kentucky baby girl are discovered after week-long search

The decomposing corpse of an eight-month-old baby has been found hidden in a rural Kentucky home in Ohio County after a weeklong search.

Miya Rudd was last seen “in late April,” but Kentucky State Police were not notified of her disappearance until this month.

Miya’s body was found under a pile of rubble at the family home in a rural area southeast of Owensboro at 1:15 p.m. Friday.

Searches were conducted at several locations, including part of the home’s backyard where investigators looked for any sign that Miya may have been there.

Police say Miya was last suspected to be in the care of her mother Tesla Tucker, 29, (left) and father Cage Rudd (right). Tucker and Rudd, 30, were arrested June 6 at Motel 6 in Owensboro, about 25 miles from their home in Reynolds Station, on multiple drug charges and child abandonment of a minor.

‘It is not easy. Actually, we were very optimistic, as was the rest of the community. We hoped that maybe someone was holding this baby. But when we found ourselves with cadaver dogs sifting through the rubble in the backyard, we knew clearly in the back of our minds that the end result wouldn’t be too promising, said Kentucky State Police Trooper Corey King. Miya Tucker was reported missing last week after state troopers conducted a welfare check at her parents’ home in Ohio County and the child was nowhere to be found.

Cadaver dogs were brought to the family’s home on Tuesday to search the grounds and nearby woods, but there were no signs of Miya.

Police said at the time that they had “no evidence that she is deceased, but also no evidence that she is alive.”

The coroner at the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville will now discover Miya’s cause of death.

In the lead-up to the discovery of Miya’s small body, state police did just that a drug ring unraveled.

Cadaver dogs were used in the search for Miya’s body last week

Investigators, with the help of cadaver dogs, spent several hours searching about five hectares of woods near the couple’s home earlier this week, but found no trace of missing Miya.

Miya’s parents, Tesla Tucker, 29, and Cage Rudd, 30, have been arrested on charges including drug possession, child abuse and abandonment of a minor.

Police found them in a room at Motel 6 with drugs, including fentanyl and methamphetamine, “in plain sight.” WFIE TV reported.

They already appeared in court this week on the drug charges and will appear one more time next week to face charges of abandonment of a minor.

After their arrest, King added that they were “not very cooperative with our investigation.”

Kentucky State Police removed Miya’s three older siblings from Tucker and Rudd’s home a while ago.

Miya, whose umbilical cord tested positive for meth after her birth in October, was expected to join her siblings on May 30.

Police also arrested Miya’s grandparents, Billie J. Smith and Ricky Smith, who lived with the couple.

Investigators believe Smith used the couple’s home as a base for drug trafficking. Fox news reported.

Billie Smith was arrested on a domestic violence warrant, while Ricky Smith was charged with abandonment of a minor and drug charges.

Miya’s maternal grandparents, Taletha, 50, and David Tucker, 53, were arrested on unrelated charges out of Daviess County.

And another arrest was made on Thursday. Brodie Payne is facing numerous drug charges for his role in the illegal drug operation at Miya’s home.

Police also arrested Timothy L. Roach at the grandmother’s home after officers saw him throw “unprescribed” opioids under his car.

Roach was charged with second-degree possession of a controlled substance and first-degree possession of a prescription controlled substance not in proper container.

He says we also took him to the Ohio County Detention Center The Louisville Courier Magazine. It is unclear what his relationship with the family is.

KSP said Miya’s body will be taken by the Ohio County Coroner’s Office and transported to the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville.
