Moment lost pet piglet called Pickles is intercepted by cop while roaming California streets

A piglet was reunited with its owner after it was found wandering the streets, giving local police officers a high-speed chase they didn’t expect.

Sebastopol Police received multiple calls Thursday around 1:40 p.m. about a pig — later identified as Pickles — running in and out of the roadway in the 800 block of Gravenstein Highway North in Sonoma County, California.

It’s still unclear how Pickles ended up on the street, but authorities say the four-legged perpetrator “appeared to be very fast and strong for an animal of his size.”

The ordeal was captured on video by a police officer’s bodycam. Officials have a clamp on Facebook showing the chase through several city blocks.

‘Pickles’ narrowly escaped capture, but with the help of local bystanders, the runaway was cornered in a side yard, seized and taken into custody.

Instead of filing charges of resisting arrest, officers opted to allow Pickles to return to his mother without a summons at the scene.

“Officers Whitehall and Thomas used discretion and chose *not* to charge ‘Pickles’ with 148(a)(1) PC – (Resisting a Peace Officer),” the police Facebook post read.

“Instead, we felt it was helpful to simply admonish ‘Pickles’ for running from officers!

“Thank you to Pickles’ mother and all the residents of Sebastopol who helped get Pickles!”
