American ‘hitwoman’ on the run Aimee Betro breaks silence as her shocked mom and friends insist she is the ‘nicest person in the world’ after her double life was exposed in botched UK murder-for-hire plot
An American ‘hitman’ in hiding after being exposed for a botched contract killing in England has communicated with friends from her hometown in Wisconsin, telling them she is trapped in a ‘sh*t show’.
‘What are you up to?’ a male friend from Stevens Point messaged Aimee Betro, 44, on Facebook Thursday, sending her a DailyMail.com article with her photo and details of her involvement in a 2019 murder plot.
The friend was even more surprised that Betro responded while she was still on the run in Asia after authorities announced they were trying to track her down.
“Dude I saw it, I don’t even know where to start with all the misinformation being said about me,” she wrote to him in a Facebook messenger exchange seen by DailyMail.com. “It’s a fucking sh*t show.”
“I’m glad you’re doing well!” the friend messaged back. “Do you need anything or can I help you with something?”

DailyMail.com spoke with Betro’s mother in Stevens Point, Wisconsin about her daughter’s predicament
“I don’t know, dude,” she replied, “I don’t think you can help with anything, but I really appreciate you reaching out,” she signed with a red heart emoji.
The friend, who has not seen Betro in a year, told DailyMail.com that he is just one of several hometown friends communicating with her about the failed assassination plot.
“I talked to her best friend today and that person said she talks to Aimee every day,” he said. ‘She uses her phone every day, taking pictures from her apartment window and chatting with people all the time.
“If the police really wanted to arrest her, they would have already caught her,” he added. “Just follow her phone and take her with you.”
He claims that during these conversations, Betro admitted the basic facts of the case. However, it is unclear what she is disputing.
“Aimee isn’t saying she didn’t have anything to do with this,” he said. “She acknowledges that she was involved and all that. She just says some details are wrong.”
One resident who didn’t hear from Betro was her own mother, Jeanne Johnson, who lives in a trailer park in Stevens Point.
She had no idea of her daughter’s alleged crime until a DailyMail.com reporter showed up at her door Thursday afternoon and presented the article.
Betro (pictured as a child) was raised by her mother Jeanne Johnson, who is now divorced from her father, who is serving time in prison on drug charges
Aimee previously had a job with the Milwaukee Brewers, which some said she liked, but was reportedly fired for stealing fans’ credit card information.
“I’m shocked,” Johnson said, trembling as she stepped onto her patio as she took drags on a cigarette. “I’ve been waiting for this day – trouble or death.”
“What the hell was she thinking?” she snapped as she read the article.
In a stark warning to authorities, Johnson said: “She’s not stupid,” she added. “She knows how to hide.”
She is divorced from Betro’s father, Stephen Betro, who is currently imprisoned in Wisconsin on drug charges and has spent much of his adult life behind bars.
The seemingly unassuming American tourist reportedly led a secret double life as a hitman. He flew from Milwaukee to kill boutique clothing store owner Sikander Ali on the orders of rival Mohammed Aslam, 56, and his son Mohammed Nazir, 30. trial heard in Britain.
While in Britain from August to September 2019, she enjoyed what would otherwise seem like a normal holiday, with almost hourly updates on Instagram showing her dancing at a boat party, visiting the London Eye and attending a music festival went.
Betro was spotted sunbathing on a busy Brighton beach and drinking margarita and mojito cocktails while catching up with friends.
She then documented her visit to Birmingham, where she shared a fake photo of herself in devil horns. The photo was posted on September 7 – the day before she disguised herself in a hijab before trying to shoot Ali outside a house in Acocks Green.
Betro fled the scene when her gun jammed, but later returned in a taxi and fired three shots into the property.
This was a source of ridicule for some of Betro’s old friends from Wisconsin.
“This is hunting country, and I’m sure she hasn’t hunted a day in her life,” the male friend said. “As far as we know, she has never fired a gun. She’s the last person I would ever think would be an assassin.
“I mean, she probably didn’t even put a grenade in the chamber the first time, I don’t know,” he said. “Thankfully it didn’t go the way she wanted, because at least now there’s a snowball’s chance that she might not have as many problems.”

Johnson said she had not seen her daughter in years. She knew Betro had an open identity theft case against her in Wisconsin. She also described the startling experience when the FBI showed up at her trailer a few years ago and questioned her about her daughter.
The FBI accused the daughter of sending an illegal package and obtained a DNA swab from the mother, presumably to help the FBI match it to Betro’s DNA as part of their investigation.
Johnson promptly messaged her daughter to ask about the package, and said her daughter responded curtly, “That’s none of your business!”
She now thinks this is all linked to the 2019 study in Birmingham, England
“I never understood why she did what she did,” she told DailyMail.com. “I thought she was booked because of that identity theft case.”
She acknowledged that she and her daughter don’t have the most loving relationship, and only recently heard from her when she sent her mother a Mother’s Day card, the whereabouts of which are unknown.
“She’s a beautiful girl, very intelligent, very outgoing,” Johnson said. “I couldn’t get a word in.”
She said her daughter graduated in the top third of her class in high school and attended Mid-State Technical College. Eventually, she got an administrative job with the Milwaukee Brewers, which she seemed to love.
Betro is alleged, at the insistence of the two men, to have disguised himself in a hijab and tried to shoot Ali while driving past his home in Acocks Green, Birmingham, about five years ago.
Far from Birmingham (photo), Betro remains on the run in parts unknown for the time being, but may be on its way to Nigeria
But according to Betro’s male friend, she is said to have lost the job after being caught using fans’ credit cards to pay for her own travel and hotels.
He said she often traveled abroad, including to Britain and other countries where she attended concerts and raves. She would also promote bands and a few years ago she bought electronic equipment for DJ events.
He had known Betro for years. The two played on the same Frisbee golf team and played matches around the state. They also got together for local beer parties where a few dozen friends gathered around.
“She has never been anything but the nicest person in the world,” he said. ‘I read the news and thought: this can’t be true. It’s now in every newspaper in the country, so it must be true.
“Honestly, if you put everyone in this town in a group and said who was going to try to kill someone, she would be the last person I would pick,” he said. “I never even heard her yell at anyone.”
“The longer she’s on the run, the harder she tries to get away, the more guilty she seems,” he said. “She clearly has no idea what she’s doing.”
