Known as Mygunyah By The Circus, the excellent ‘extended terrace’ house is located in the suburb of Fitzroy North, overlooking the leafy Edinburgh Gardens.

Mygunyah By The Circus has two striking features: the series of windows through the hedges that offer views of the street from the living room and the large wooden ceiling above the living room.

The house consists of three separate pavilions that flow together seamlessly to create a luxurious family home designed by renowned Melbourne architect Matt Gibson.

To the front of the property is a historic Victorian-era house, which has been preserved and showcases its old-world features such as ornate balustrades and stained glass windows.

The spectacular home consists of three separate pavilions that flow together seamlessly to create a luxurious family home, all designed by renowned Melbourne architect Matt Gibson.

From the front door, a long hallway leads guests down through the original historic home to the expansive common area added to the rear.

At the very rear is the glass-enclosed dining room off the kitchen which opens onto the covered outdoor area and sunny rear garden overlooking a stunning swimming pool.

Separated from the main house by an internal herringbone stone path, the living room is a unique gray brick structure in which a timber-clad, sloping ceiling rises to a skylight to allow sunlight to stream in.

A square window in the chic living room is reflected in the leafy hedges, giving the rear of the house views over three parts of the garden, the street and the park opposite.

Outside, the gardens are made up of a range of different zones, from the sundeck connecting to the lounge to the hedge-lined pool area and grassy landscape to the front.

Designers embraced brickwork as a statement feature of both the interior and exterior, using different shades, patterns and textures that, in combination with special angles and arched windows, form a playful rear facade.

Matt Gibson told it The Local Project he took a conceptual approach to the design, bringing together three different pavilions.

Mygunyah By The Circus was once a modest terrace home with an outdated design and garden before it was purchased for a whopping $4.25 million in 2015.

“The original building, a second contemporary building in cream brick and a new pavilion to the west of the site, with a north-facing family room and a series of individual gardens,” he said.

‘One of the beautiful features of the three separate pavilions and the soft connection between them is that you get a lot of light through the center of the building.’

Mygunyah By The Circus was once a modest terrace home with an outdated design and garden before it was purchased for a whopping $4.25 million in 2015.

The new owners removed the gray paint that covered the stone street side of the terrace and added their contemporary extension with design elements that reflected the original house to maintain its picturesque character.
