Spotify will soon give you a mini version of Wrapped all year round β but does that justify the price increases?
Are you eager to get your Spotify Wrapped up, even though 2024 is still six months away? Well, you can call it quits, because Spotify is going to release some form of Wrapped throughout the year.
The music streaming service touted its new ‘My Spotify’ feature for the homepage of the Spotify app, which aims to display personalized banners and messages that reveal a user’s listening habits; effectively it could be a bit like a real-time Wrapped.
Spotify has now explained that My Spotify will combine features such as the AI ββDJ, Daylist, Blend playlist and the ‘Made For You’ playlist into a “one-stop shop full of personalized playlists, podcasts, features and recommendations for every listener.”
How good My Spotify will be at providing new and fresh music to users based on their tastes remains to be seen, but it is a new level of customization being added to Spotify.
There is a caveat in the fact that My Spotify has a limited rollout for now. But at least it will be available to all users rather than those on the Spotify Premium subscription β side note: the price has increased by $1/Β£1 per month, with Spotify offering nothing extra; those are the times we live in.
Spotify could soon let you chat with friends during a group listening session
Speaking of Spotify Premium, it looks like the Jam feature will offer a chat feature. That involves some code diving Android Authoritywho found a code string referring to βcampfire chatsβ revealing that a new chat feature is in the works.
Currently, the Jam option in Spotify Premium lets a group of people listen to the same playlist together and add songs to that list. Still, the feature is limited in the sense that people can’t chat about the playlist within Spotify β they’d probably have to opt for an alternative messaging service to discuss whether Dua Lipa is with us these days. the ‘big tunes to head-bang to’ playlist.
Now, the discovered code in the Android Spotify app isn’t an indication that the chat feature is official in any way, but it would be a sign that Spotify is apparently testing it. And it makes sense to have a chat function in addition to Jam mode.
On that note, there is one thing that may not make sense the $5 add-on to Spotify Premium that could add a Hi-Fi feature to the service. The potential add-on is in addition to (or separate from, if you prefer) the recent June price increases for the streaming service.
While this upgrade will likely introduce better quality audio into the mix, other services already offer hi-res and lossless levels at no extra cost. It certainly raises the question of whether Spotify is worth it in a time when Apple Music is not increases in price, while still offering more in terms of resolution…
