Sausage shock: Outrage erupts over eye-watering prices of Aussie BBQ classic
Festivalgoers at Vivid Sydney were outraged by the ‘ridiculous’ price charged for a simple sausage.
The event, known for its dazzling light shows, returned to Sydney on May 24. However, many attendees were baffled when a food vendor charged $8.50 for a sausage with onions in bread.
One frustrated visitor shared a photo of the supplier’s price list on Reddit, saying: ‘I’ve seen everyone talking about the crowds and not being able to see the drone show this year, but can we please talk about the price of a sausage in bread.
‘I don’t care what the reason is; $8.50 is disgusting.”
The sausage sizzle at Vivid Sydney, which costs $8.50, is more than 325 percent more expensive than the usual $2 sausage sizzle found at fundraisers.
In Australia, a typical sausage in bread usually costs between $2.00 and $4.00 at community events, fundraisers or local markets
“I might spend $5 if I was hungry, but I’d never be hungry enough to spend $8.50 for a sausage sandwich,” a second added.
“Food stalls are almost never worth buying,” said a third.
“For that price you can buy your own sausage, bread and sauce and eat several sausage rolls,” adds a fourth.
