Stepbrothers is a comedic masterpiece. Despite not receiving exceptional reviews, it is still considered one of the funniest films ever made by fans – and I can’t help but agree. It’s chock full of iconic lines, from “did we just become best friends?” to “so much room for activities,” and hilarious moments that are still recited 16 years later.
The premise follows two immature, middle-aged men – Brennan Huff (Will Ferrell) and Dale Doback (John C. Reilly) – who still live at home with their parents. But when Brennan’s mother and Dale’s father get married, their world is turned upside down as they are forced to all live together under one roof.
Ferrell and Reilly are hilarious in their roles as rambunctious children trapped in adult bodies, whose outrageous behavior cannot be controlled by their desperate parents. Their sibling rivalry is one of the funniest aspects of the film and makes for some truly memorable scenes. So if you’re looking for some corny jokes and bizarre humor to brighten up your day, this is the place Stepbrothers is a must watch Netflix.
Step brotherly love
although Stepbrothers did not receive the best critical reception when it was released in 2008, rich admired Ferrell and Reilly’s comedic double act: “Ferrell and Reilly are a fantastic double act, with Reilly’s cockiness playing well with the innocence of Ferrell’s puppy dog. They’re fine separately, but when the two are together, whether it’s during an extended fight scene with a bunch of kids, or during a demented sleepwalking sequence, the movie is great. Crucially, they also make Dale and Brennan – who can very easily be obnoxious and unlikeable – sympathetic.”
It shows that slapstick comedy and exaggerated storylines are a big hit among audiences Time-out wrote: “Despite some obvious shortcomings, Stepbrothers remains a hugely enjoyable, well-constructed piece of approachable Saturday night entertainment, keeping Ferrell’s position as the reigning king of American comedy secure for a while yet.
The guard added: “There are certainly one or two funny, broad moments, especially when the ‘boys’ get it into their heads to convert their beds into bunk beds, and their impersonation of 13-year-olds is eerily accurate.”
General, Stepbrothers is an incredibly entertaining film that once you start watching, you won’t be able to stop.
