A woman killed by a vintage steam train in a Mexican town after standing too close to the tracks for a selfie has been identified as 29-year-old Dulce Alondra.

The Spanish-language broadcaster reports this Noticias Telemundo Alondra was with her young son when she was hit by a locomotive known as The Empress on Tuesday.

A video shows her telling the child to stay low and away from the train. But Alondra, who was standing on a small hill posing for a selfie, came one step too close, resulting in the accident.

The young boy was reportedly not injured.

The tragedy occurred in the town of Nopala de Villagran, 90 kilometers northwest of the city Mexico City.

Just before the woman is hit, a voice is heard warning people to stay far away from the train.

Authorities have reminded residents to stand at least 10 meters from the tracks and never attempt to climb onto railway equipment or infrastructure for a better view.

Alondra’s funeral will take place tomorrow in the Mexican state of Hidalgo.

Canadian Pacific 2816, also known as The Empress, was built in Montreal in December 1930 and is one of a kind, a H1b 4-6-4 Hudson steam locomotive that is still intact.

Until last spring, the train had been out of use since 2012. The train kicked off its latest Spike Steam Tour in Calgary in April and ends in Mexico City on June 7.

The train’s operators, Canadian Pacific Kansas City, told DailyMail.com in a statement:

“We regret to inform that a woman was fatally injured when she collided with a passing train on Tuesday, shortly after it left a station in the municipality of Nopala de Villagrán, Hidalgo. This tragic incident is under investigation.

We are deeply saddened by this loss of life and would like to express our condolences to the woman’s family and loved ones.

For their own safety and that of the trains, all spectators watching a train must always keep a minimum distance of 10 meters from the train and the track. Spectators should never stand on railway tracks, attempt to board railway equipment or climb onto railway infrastructure. Always be careful around tracks and trains.’
