‘Tommy Shelby wasn’t done with me yet’: Cillian Murphy will reprise Peaky Blinders role in upcoming Netflix film

Murphy will produce the film written by Peaky blinders Series creator Steven Knight is a sequel to the award-winning series that last aired in 2022. Tom Harper, who previously directed episodes of the first season, will also return to the director’s chair.
Netflix has confirmed the upcoming Peaky blinders film on their official Twitter account on Tuesday (May 4) with a photo of the script with the title A Peaky Blinders movie (see below).

“It seems Tommy Shelby wasn’t done with me yet… It’s very satisfying to be working with Steven Knight and Tom Harper again on the film version of Peaky blinders. This is one for the fans,” Murphy wrote in the announcement on social media.
Harper is also excited to get the gang back together, saying, “When I first directed Peaky blinders over a decade ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive.
“Peak has always been a story about family – and that’s why it’s incredibly exciting to be working with Steve and Cillian to bring the film on Netflix to audiences around the world.”
Production on the film will begin later this year, echoing an earlier statement from Knight confirming that the cast will begin filming in Birmingham in September.
In the same interview with Radio times, Knight also revealed that the film would follow the Shelbys into World War II. The original series, which lasted six seasons, followed the Shelby family gang as they rose to prominence on the violent streets of post-World War I Birmingham. Knight expects the film to be an “explosive chapter” in the movie Peaky blinders story: “I’m really happy that this movie is going to happen. No restrictions whatsoever. Frontal Peaky blinders at war.”
Murphy won a string of awards and gained a huge fan base for his portrayal of the infamous gangster. He then swept the boards at awards season for his role as theoretical physicist and father of the atomic bomb J. Robert Oppenheimer in the Sir Christopher Nolan biopic. Oppenheimerso we expect another explosive performance from the Oscar winner.
