Wacol, Brisbane: Huge twist in fatal Uber hit-and-run

A driver has been charged with murder following a fatal road crash involving an Uber in Brisbane’s far west.

Kai Fursey, 28, was reportedly behind the wheel of a Ford Mondeo when it collided with a Toyota Camry at an intersection near Wacol shortly after 2 a.m. on May 28, reports The courier post.

A passenger in the Camry, an Uber, died at the scene and has since been identified as 30-year-old Gold Coast man Ryan Grafton.

Another passenger in the Uber, a 26-year-old woman, and the driver were rushed to hospital after the accident.

It is understood the 42-year-old male driver suffered back injuries in the accident.

In a statement, Queensland Police said a 28-year-old man from Goodna reported to Acacia Ridge police without incident on June 3 after allegedly fleeing the scene of the accident on foot.

In a further update on Tuesday evening, police said the Goodna man had been charged with one count each of murder and dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm.

He was also charged with driving while disqualified, possession of property suspected of being used in connection with the commission of a drug offence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and two counts of possession of dangerous drugs, receiving contaminated property and theft.

Fursey will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
