Mauricio Pochettino breaks his silence two weeks after leaving Chelsea – as he confirms Stamford Bridge return

Mauricio Pochettino has broken his silence two weeks after saying goodbye to Chelsea on social media, confirming he will return to Stamford Bridge in the very near future.

The Argentinian guided Chelsea back to European competition in his first term at the helm despite an up-and-down first half of the season, but left the club by mutual consent in May.

The Blues have since announced Enzo Maresca as their newest head coach, with confirmation expected on Monday.

Pochettino’s departure may have come as a surprise to many as the dressing room was thought to be very close to the ex-Tottenham manager after his sixth-place finish in 2024 with just three defeats.

Yet Chelsea still clearly hold a positive place in Pochettino’s heart, judging by his moving message, in which he thanked supporters and senior players at the club for their support during his only season in charge.

Taking to his Instagram account, the former Blues boss wrote: ‘To the owners, the sporting directors, we appreciate the opportunity to return to the Premier League with this great club and for the support you have given us, as well as from all the players . staff and fans – thank you.

‘We understand how important this football club is to all of you and that is why we are working so hard to give you a Chelsea you can be proud of.

‘I am so pleased with the level the team has reached and the way the players and staff have worked so hard to raise their standards. They deserve a lot of credit and I hope you felt that in the way they performed on the pitch.

“We know there have been ups and downs, but we always believed in this team and that we would get to a consistent level.

“I believe that the experiences of this season and the great improvements we have seen will only make the players stronger for the future. It has been a pleasure working with them all and we appreciate the strong bonds we have built together over the past year.

“I would like to wish you all the best for next season and beyond.

‘It’s great that we have the opportunity to return to Stamford Bridge so quickly this weekend with SoccerAid and I hope we’ll see some of you there too.

‘I hope you all have a great summer. Big hug from us, Member of Parliament x.’

Although on-pitch results improved towards the end of the season, Pochettino was still subject to an internal review, with the club’s hierarchy believed to be unhappy with the progress the team had made in 2023–24.

The review was led by co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali and sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart in the aftermath of their 2-1 win over Bournemouth on the final day of the campaign.
