Love Island contestant Jess White says she would be ‘happy’ to return to her day job as a shelf stacker at M&S if she doesn’t find success on the show.

The 25-year-old shop assistant, who has worked in the food hall at Marks & Spencer for the past eight years, told MailOnline that her bosses have allowed her to take a ‘career break’ and that the door is open for her return.

And the Islander says that although she loves working for the big retailer, she didn’t pack any M&S clothes for her stay in the villa, admitting she’s more of a ‘PrettyLittleThing’ girl.

She said: ‘I love my job, it wouldn’t be a problem if I could just last a week and be back on the shelves at M&S.

“One of my big bosses guessed what I was doing… I said, that’s not happening, but I can’t lie, so she definitely knew what I was doing.

‘I told everyone I was going to travel, which they thought was a bit strange, but OK.

‘They said to me ‘take a career break’, they were so flexible, they are so flexible as a company, I thought I would leave now and really enjoy myself, but the door is open, it’s real a nice feature to be inside.

‘For the backstory, M&S has a new buyer, so it’s literally gone from granny clothes to stuff I would wear myself. But I don’t actually buy any clothes from M&S… I’m basically a PLT girl in terms of clothes.’

Jess has been single for two years after coming out of a long-term relationship in which she feels like she has lost herself as a person.

She decided to focus on her health and fitness after a good friend started a personal training company and she became her first client.

In the aftermath of her break-up she lost confidence in her body, but her new regime allowed her to lose a stone and a half, with Jess saying she now aims to run marathons.

She said: ‘I was in a long-term relationship, I was with my ex for a very long time. I broke up with him two years ago.

‘When I broke up with you, I wanted to be single and enjoy myself. You know when you’ve been in a relationship for a long time you forget who you are on your own, especially since I was with him from a young age.

“Before that I had gained quite a bit of weight, you know, when you’re in a relationship and you’re very happy, eat what you want, you don’t really care, but it got to a point where I was ‘I’m happy.’

‘My friend had qualified as a PT and she suggested I be her first client and we did it together and we went to the gym and used me as her portfolio and I just realized how much I loved it.

‘I lost about a stone and a half so I wasn’t overweight by any means, but I had no confidence in myself and ever since I’ve been obsessed with going to the gym… I say ‘obsessed’ but I haven’t exercised since’ been to Mallorca.

‘But I’m enjoying it, it’s a bit of time for me. I also started running, you know how everyone became a running girl…’

While she hopes to impress in the villa, Jess admits there’s one beauty treatment she didn’t want to undergo.

She said: ‘I was booked in for a bikini wax but I didn’t look good. It gave me more anxiety than entering the villa.

‘I’ve done it once before and when I say it was traumatic, it was traumatic… I don’t think anyone should get that close to you like that. I was so nervous from the pain.’

Jess confirmed she had shaved instead, adding: ‘It’s all well maintained there… I don’t have a bush, no!’
