Dr. Helen Mary Roberts, serving in the Pakistan Army Medical Corps, has created history by becoming the first woman from the Christian and minority community to reach the rank of Brigadier General in the country’s history.
Brigadier General Helen was among the Pakistan Army officers promoted by the jury to brigadiers and colonels, The News reported on Sunday.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Helen on her promotion to Brigadier General and said the entire nation was proud of her and thousands of hardworking women like her from minority communities who are serving the country with distinction.
“Myself and the nation congratulate Brigadier General Helen Mary Roberts on achieving the honor of becoming the first minority woman to be promoted to Brigadier General in the Pakistan Army,” he said.
At a Christmas celebration last year at Christ Church in Rawalpindi, Pakistan’s army chief, General Asim Munir, praised the role the minority community played in the country’s development.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics in 2021, there are 96.47 percent Muslims in the country, followed by 2.14 percent Hindus, 1.27 percent Christians, 0.09 percent Ahmadi Muslims and 0. 02 percent others.
