William H. Macy BLASTS Hollywood for ‘doing a lot of damage to the world’ with portrayals of violence in film and television – and believes stance has ‘cost me a lot of work’

William H. Macy has criticized Hollywood for the industry’s overuse of violence.

The 74-year-old acting veteran – who applauded Felicity Huffman five years after the college admissions scandal – appeared Brett Goldstein’s Films That Should Be Buried With Podcast on Wednesday where he targeted film and television.

He said: ‘I swear to God, if you kill one person, there’s nothing more dramatic than that.

‘You kill 18 people, it’s just porn. The only thing you can do to make that more dramatic is kill another eighteen.”

Emmy winner Goldstein proposed an idea for a series, saying, “You take three episodes to fall in love with one of the main characters and then shoot him.

“But don’t write him off the show. And every week you can see what a bullet does to a human body. You see how it destroys his marriage… the deep, dark depressions.”

William added that voicing his views on the industry’s “portrayal of violence” has “cost me a lot of work.”

This comes days after he proved himself a supportive husband by cheering on wife Felicity Huffman as she returns to television five years after the college admissions scandal.

The Fargo vet spoke about the actress’ new gig on the second season of Criminal Minds: Evolution during a candid interview with AND on Thursday.

‘It was amazing! I went to see her on set a few times… and she had a great time,” the actor said of Huffman’s experience.

‘I also think she did a great job. I’m really glad she’s working,” he continued.

The Emmy-winning star added that the pair have always bonded over their love of acting, noting, “We give each other scripts and we give each other notes. Somehow we make it work.”

As Felicity prepares for her primetime comeback, William steps into the Planet of the Apes franchise for the first time with the latest installment, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

‘I saw the Roddy McDowall version, I saw the first one, in the [theaters] when I was young,” he recalls of the 1968 original. “To be a part of it is very flattering and satisfying.”

The 61-year-old Desperate Housewives star, who spent 11 days in jail for fraud in 2019, will guest star as “Dr. Jill Gideon’ in the second season of Criminal Minds spin-off Evolution.

Gideon is a brilliant biological psychiatrist who agrees to help the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit investigate a murderous conspiracy theory.

According to a synopsis: ‘Jill is reluctant to return to the agency’s elite team, given her complicated history with David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) and her late ex-husband, Jason Gideon (formerly played by original series star Mandy Patinkin) , but soon realizes that her specific skills can help them uncover a new clue to the elusive Gold Star mystery.”

In December, Felicity broke her silence on the Varsity Blues scandal, spending 11 days in jail after bribing college officials for $15,000 to mess up her daughter’s SAT scores. She said she felt like she had “no choice” but to break the law.

She faced consequences for her actions, paying $30,000 in fines and serving 11 days behind bars following her 2019 fraud charges.

Her involvement in the scandal landed her in a cohort of wealthy parents caught up in the controversy.

Similarly, actress Lori Loughlin was incarcerated for her part in illegally obtaining USC admissions for both of her daughters.

In her first public comments outside the courtroom, Felicity said ABC that she thought it was “a joke” when FBI agents entered her home to arrest her.

“They came into my house, woke my daughters up at gunpoint – again, nothing new for the black and brown community – and put my hands behind my back and handcuffed me.

‘I asked if I could get dressed. I thought it was a hoax. I literally turned to one of the FBI people in a body armor and a gun and I said, “is this a joke?”

Huffman said she regretted the plan but felt she had no choice at the time because Sophia, who she previously said has a learning disability, would not have been accepted otherwise.

Sophia now studies drama at Carnegie Mellon.

‘I felt like I had to give my daughter a chance at a future. And so it was kind of like my daughter’s future, which meant breaking the law,” she said.

“I think the people I owe a debt and an apology to are the academic community and the students and the families who sacrifice and work very hard to get to where they are legitimately going.”

Huffman is now speaking out to raise awareness of A New Way of Life, an organization that helps formerly incarcerated women reintegrate into society.

“I want to use my experience, what I’ve been through and the pain to bring something good,” she said.

Huffman and husband William H. Macy hired Singer to help Sophia improve her scores so she could attend college.

She claims that the plan was not obvious at first, but became clear when Singer told them that Sophia would not be accepted into any school without greasing the wheels.

‘After a year he started saying that your daughter is not going to any of the universities she wants to go to.

‘And I believed him. And so when he slowly started presenting the criminal plan, it seemed like — and I know this seems crazy at the time — but that was my only option to give my daughter a future.”

Sophia was unaware that her parents had paid for someone to change her test answers after she completed the SATS.

The scheme involved Singer paying a handful of discreet SAT test proctors who would inflate students’ scores once they completed the exam.

On the day of the SAT test, she said Sophia was nervous and asked if they could go out for ice cream afterwards.

“She said, ‘Can we get ice cream afterward?’” Huffman recalls. “I’m scared about the test.

‘What can we do that’s fun? And I kept thinking, turn around, just turn around.

“And to my eternal shame, I didn’t,” Huffman said.

Loughlin and husband Mossimo Giuliani had their daughters disguised as sports stars and propped them up on rowing machines to cover up applications that presented them as athletes.

Rick Singer, the mastermind, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison in January this year.
