A Costa Brava town has banned penis suits and sex dolls, saying it could fine stag parties up to €1,500 if they are caught.

A new ordinance bans people from going out in public “without clothing or only in their underwear or with clothing or accessories representing human genitals or with dolls or other accessories of a sexual nature.”

These measures, which are being implemented to tackle the raucous behavior often caused by stag and hen parties, could be introduced later this month.

Mayor Maurici Jimenez said: “This attitude is affecting the coexistence of the community and we must fight against it.”

As an example of outrageous behavior, the head of the local police of Platja d’Aro, David Puertas, gave the example of a recent incident in which a groom was tied to a lamppost with duct tape while others circled around him, singing and playing loud music . until the early hours of the morning.

Platja d’Aro is not the first Spanish city to want to restrict pre-wedding celebrations.

Tossa De Mar and Lloret de Mar, also on the Costa Brava, have already introduced similar restrictions, as have cities such as Seville, Malaga and Granada in southern Spain.

In 2022, party hotspot Malaga banned inflatable sex dolls as part of a major crackdown on stag and hen parties.

The city council introduced the new regulations due to a reported increase in anti-social behavior, often linked to the vulgar parties.

They said the rules are intended to “preserve public space as a place of encounter, coexistence and civility that accommodates the plurality of expressions and diverse ways of life that enrich our city.”

The Spanish resort of Mojacar also banned giant inflatable nude dolls and novelty penises in 2016, after the city council said it had had enough of unruly groups of men and women, many on stag nights, giving the popular resort on Spain’s southern coast of Almeria a bad image.
