Israel says bombardment of Gaza ‘will continue into 2025’ as world mourns tragedy which saw 45 Palestinians burned alive in Rafah refuge camp on Sunday

Israel’s bombing of Gaza will continue until 2025, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s national security adviser said on Wednesday.

Tzachi Hanegbi told Israeli public broadcaster KAN that the war is expected to continue for another seven months.

He said the Israeli army “now controls 75 percent of the Philadelphia route.”

“I believe in time we will get it all under control. Together with the Egyptians, we must ensure that arms smuggling from Egypt to Gaza is prevented,” Hanegbi added.

Meanwhile, residents of Rafah said there had been more Israeli airstrikes and tanks had carried out attacks in central and western areas.

Rafah’s last hospital is barely functional and a “full-scale raid” by Israeli forces could lead to its closure and a “substantial” number of deaths, a senior World Health Organization (WHO) official said.

Israel said Rafah is needed to achieve victory in the war, which was sparked when Hamas attacked the country on October 7, killing about 1,200 people and taking 252 others hostage.

At least 36,170 people have been killed across Gaza since the war began, the Hamas-led Health Ministry claimed.
