North West ‘wore her own’ outfit for Lion King performance as Young Simba (complete with furry slippers) – after fans said it looked ‘amateur’ compared to Broadway-level outfits worn by professional cast
North West donned her own costume from the ERL clothing company for her appearances in a few shows for The Lion King.
North, the eldest of four children shared by exes Kim Kardashian, 43, and Kanye West, 46, performed at a pair of concerts in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Bowl on Friday and Saturday in the role of Young Simba.
North, 10, wore a yellow ensemble as she took to the stage during the show, which was filmed for a future Disney+ release, where she performed the song I Just Can’t Wait to be King and at one point received a standing ovation from fans.
North was outfitted in a furry hoodie with shorts, socks and furry slippers; said a spokesperson for the musical People Tuesday that North, as well as the show’s stars Jennifer Hudson and Jeremy Irons, were “not equipped by the production” for which Marina Toybina was designed.
The company ERL Clothing then posted several images to Instagram on Tuesday afternoon of North in the costume it designed for her, with the caption “costume design for North in Disney’s The Lion King.”

Reactions to the costume on the thread were mostly negative, with several users saying the ensemble looked amateurish compared to the other performers featured in the show.
Some users said the costume looked more like the cool Big Bird from Sesame Street than Simba.
“You missed the command, this is the vibe of a big bird, not Simba,” said one user, while another said: “This gives a big bird, not Simba.”

One user referenced the Kardashians in their comment, saying, “You guys must secretly hate this family… how could you fail so horribly?”
One user said the costume took away from North’s performance because it looked chintzy and was thrown together at the last minute.
“You did her dirty with this costume,” the user said. “She had a front [and] mid-performance, but everyone else around her looked fantastic in costumes that matched the performance.
“This just looks like one of those costumes your mother throws together on the morning of World Book Day because she completely forgot.”

The weekend shows at the famed Southern California venue were not an exact “staging of the Broadway show,” but a collection of songs from the 1994 animated film and its 2019 remake, according to People.
Kim Kardashian posted several social media posts commemorating her eldest child’s latest venture, which several people said was indicative of Hollywood’s tendency toward nepotism.
“If there was ever a time when Kanye had to run on stage and take someone’s mic away, this was it,” said a user on DailyMail’s TikTok account, referring to North Dad’s infamous interruption of Taylor Swift in 2009.
In addition to Hudson and Irons, North also appeared alongside household names such as Nathan Lane, Billy Eichner, Bradley Gibson and Jason Weaver.
North’s parents weren’t shy about putting her on stage, as in March her father Kanye brought her on stage to sing along to his song Talking at the Rolling Loud festival.
