The NFL Players Association released a statement saying they have agreed on changes they would like to see implemented to the NFL concussion policy.

According to the statement, the changes have been shared with the NFL, and the NFLPA hopes to see them implemented before Sunday’s games.

The NFL responded later in the day saying the changes were “probable” but didn’t commit to any sort of solid timeline.

The NFLPA’s statement read:

“Our union has agreed to change concussion protocols to prevent players from playing again in the event of a similar incident to what we witnessed on September 25.”

“We would like these changes to go into effect before this weekend’s games to protect the players immediately and we hope the NFL accepts the changes before then.”

“As discussed with the NFLPA, we agree that changes to the joint NFL-NFLPA protocols are needed to further improve player safety.”

“We have already spoken with members of the NFL Head, Neck and Spine Committee and the leadership of the Unaffiliated Neurotrauma Consultants and Independent Certified Athletic Trainers who serve as spotters to discuss these likely changes.”

All of this comes after Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was discharged with a concussion during Thursday night’s week four football game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Just four days before Tagovailoa appeared, he suffered a concussion after being hit on the head and tripped when he stood up to the Buffalo Bills.

Despite this, he reportedly passed the concussion test on the sidelines and was diagnosed with only a back injury.

After an assessment of the situation by the NFLPA, the independent neurotrauma counselor who examined Tagovailoa was fired after it was discovered that he had made several mistakes.
