Christie Brinkley, 70, reveals her skin cancer was caught by CHANCE by her daughter’s dermatologist before he rushed her to a biopsy and ‘took care of it’

Christie Brinkley first opened up about her skin cancer diagnosis when she visited Today show in New York City on Tuesday.

The 70-year-old supermodel said she joined one of her daughters during her dermatology appointment. Once there, Christie asked her daughter’s doctor if he could look at her face. Then the doctor discovered the cancer.

“I didn’t even have a check-up scheduled, I took my daughter to the dermatologist,” Christie says.

“I was in the room and he had a little magnifying glass out and he was looking at some of the things that she was concerned about,” Brinkley said.

“I thought, ‘There’s that little spot right on the side of my head… Should I say something? It’s not my deal.’

‘At the very end… I said, ‘Before you put that down, do you think you could take a look at this?’

The doctor then said, ‘We need to do a biopsy immediately. This is something.’ Then the biopsy came back (as) cancer,” she said.

The Sports Illustrated model first revealed via Instagram in March that doctors had found basal cell carcinoma, one of the most common forms of skin cancer, on the upper left side of her face.

Brinkley added that doctors quickly removed the cancer.

“They took care of it, and luckily my hair grows that way, but the scar is barely noticeable,” she said.

According to the American Cancer Society, basal cell carcinoma is a type of skin cancer that starts in basal cells, found in the outer layer of the skin.

Typically, basal cell carcinomas develop in areas of the skin that are frequently exposed to sunlight, especially on the face. They tend to grow slowly and do not often spread to other parts of the body.

The supermodel advised viewers this summer to wear sunscreen and hats when stepping out in the sun.

The fashion industry mainstay made her first public statement about her basal cell carcinoma on her Instagram account last March.

At the time, she also shared a trio of photos taken before and after her carcinoma was removed from her head.

She also wrote a lengthy post revealing that her medical team caught her cancer “early.”

Brinkley joked that her doctors stitched me up to perfection [a] haute couture Dior.’

The supermodel then wrote about how she would take preventative measures to protect herself from skin cancer in the future.

‘I put on my SPF 30, reapply as needed, wear long sleeves and a wide-brimmed hat. And do a regular total body check…it’s a MUST,” she wrote.

She then advised her followers to “create your own happiness by making that check-up appointment today.”

The star concluded her post by writing: ‘Slather up my Friends!’
