Nintendo and Lego unveil an awesome $300 Deku Tree set
The Great Deku Tree set from Nintendo and Lego is a two-in-one tribute to two incredible Zelda games: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time And The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The $300 package includes 2,500 parts to help you build a Great Deku Tree scene from one of the iconic games.
“In addition to the Great Deku Tree, the set features iconic landscapes from the video games, including the Master Sword pedestal from Breath of the wildas well as Link’s House Ocarina of Time, giving enthusiasts the freedom to customize their display,” Lego said in a press release. “The structure is elegantly mounted on stands, allowing the set to be displayed effortlessly.”
Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma said that Nintendo wanted the Deku Tree to be the first Zelda set in Lego. Here’s how Lego and Nintendo describe the set’s duality:
Notably, both builds offer interactive features. In the Breath of the wild version, the Great Deku Tree’s face can be animated with a simple press of a lever, while the Ocarina of Time The Great Deku Tree version features a captivating mechanic: when activated, its mouth opens to reveal a cleverly designed Skulltula (a spider-like enemy from the games) that descends into the depths.
In the Breath of the wild In the version, enthusiasts will marvel at the Great Deku Tree adorned with vibrant pink blossoms, accompanied by the iconic Master Sword pedestal. Notably, this rendition features a captivating feature: the ability to animate the tree’s expressive eyebrows and mouth, adding depth to the build.
Meanwhile, in the Ocarina of Time version, builders will encounter a Great Deku Tree decorated with lush green leaves. This version includes Link’s House, a crucial element connected to the Ocarina of Time story, adding an extra layer of nostalgia and authenticity to the set. It’s worth noting that regardless of which version you choose, you’ll have the option to build both the Master Sword pedestal and Link’s House as smaller models.
The set contains four minifigures: Link and Princess Zelda in their Breath of the wild outfits, next to young Link and Link out Ocarina of Time. There are also buildable characters such as Hestu the Korok and his Korok friends, Deku Babas, Navi, the Deku Sprout and a Skulltula.
The Great Deku Tree kit is expected to ship on September 1, but pre-orders are already open. At $299.99, it’s a pricey kit, but the level of detail seemingly makes the cost worth it. With this kit, Nintendo continues its extensive collaboration with Lego; to date, Lego has created nearly 30 Super Mario Bros. kits, as well Animal Crossing: New Horizon sets and classic consoles.
