Chelsea have offered Tosin Adarabioyo a contract, but Newcastle United remain hopeful of his signature.
The Fulham defender will become a free agent next month and discussions with his representatives have led to a deal with Newcastle.
As Mail Sport revealed, a number of clubs, including Manchester United, have shown interest in the 26-year-old and Chelsea had also made contact, but have now followed that up with an offer.
Adarabioyo has made 22 appearances for the Cottagers this season, scoring twice, and has spent the last four seasons with the West London club.
Chelsea, who also admire Newcastle goalkeeper James Trafford from Burnley, are looking to increase their own quota and Adarabioyo also represents excellent value.

There would be more competition for a first-team place at Chelsea, although they are looking to sell Trevoh Chalobah for around £25m.
Newcastle are still considered favorites and are trying to push through a deal but are awaiting Adarabioyo’s final decision.
