Thousands of customers are just discovering the purpose of the easy-to-miss hooks on shopping carts.
Sydney Woolworths employee Liam Kirley revealed in a resurfaced TikTok video that the hook under the handlebars at the back of the trolley is designed to store your shopping bags.
The insight was described as ‘life-changing’ for some who had ‘no idea’ the hook was already there.
However, other customers disagreed and admitted that they have used the hook to store fried chickens.
“Here’s a trolley hack from Woolworths,” Liam said in the viral video.

Liam revealed that the easy-to-miss hook under the handlebars at the back of the trolley (left) is designed to store your hat or the green reusable bags from Woolworths (right). However, some customers admitted to using the hook to store fried chooks
‘Each Woolworths trolley has a handy hook for you to hang your hat or reusable bags on.’
Although some customers dismissed his explanation and remained convinced that the hook was specifically designed to carry roast chickens, to keep them away from cold products and prevent them from being crushed by other groceries.
“Definitely for fried chook,” said one woman.
“It’s good for your fried chicken so other foods don’t spoil,” another agreed.
Other shoppers said they use the hook for handbags, olive oil and even pocket items, like their key chains.
“I use it for my bags and my fried chicken,” said one woman.
“My mom hangs her bag on it,” wrote another.

“If you’re like me and forget your bags, you can set a reminder in the Woolworths app to let you know when you’ll arrive at the store to collect your bags,” he said.
For the third hack, the employee demonstrated a convenient way to store the bags so they last longer.
He lifted the bottom of the bag and laid it flat on himself to store it neatly.
“If you fold your reusable bags like this, they will last longer,” he said.
The bags themselves cost 99 cents each and Woolworths will replace the bags if they are damaged.
