EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Prince Harry’s book ‘will end on the Queen’s funeral’, claims Lord Jeffrey Archer

>

Friends of the Duke of Sussex said he was “devastated” by alleged snubs while he was here at the time of the Queen’s funeral.

We may not have to wait long to hear his own version of events.

For bestselling author Jeffrey Archer, who was a friend of Princess Diana, Prince Harry says he is writing a new chapter for his highly anticipated memoir, dealing with his grandmother’s death and the events leading up to her funeral.

Lord Archer says he is deeply concerned that the book will exacerbate the already tense relationship between the royal family and Harry and his wife Meghan.

‘I am very sad,’ complains the pear. ‘I fear for the book. I know they’re writing the funeral chapter, so I think the book will end there.”

The royal autobiography was due to be published this fall, but The Mail on Sunday revealed last month that Harry had put out an 11-hour offer to change it for fear it would be seen as insensitive after the Queen’s death.

He was said to be “desperate” to make significant changes after witnessing the public outpouring of support for the royal family.

However, Archer says that the Duke’s publisher, Penguin Random House, will be determined to get value for money as the book is causing a lot of controversy. “They paid him a lot of money, about twenty million pounds. Will you slow down when you get 20 million pounds?’

A Penguin Random House spokesperson declined to comment, while Harry declined to communicate with the popular press.

Of Harry and Meghan’s new life in Montecito, Lord Archer says: ‘I always say, rather cruelly, that I could survive in California for about a week. It’s not a state I’d like to stay in – it’s one temperature and they all want to be celebrities. And [Meghan] is now a big celebrity.

‘How will it end? I have no idea. She’s a very, very smart woman.’

Buckingham Palace is not expecting a draft of Harry’s book for publication, but Archer, 82, has sent the Windsors copies of his own new novel, Next In Line, about a fictional kidnapping of Princess Diana.

“I sent it to three members of the royal family and they all loved it,” he said in an interview with an Australian newspaper.

While not revealing their identities, he does say, “The Duchess of York has written a lavish critique of American newspapers.” And of the Queen Consort, Camilla, he says, “She’s already read it.”

The timing of the publication of his own book, right after the Queen’s funeral, is of no concern to him. “You can’t miss my affection for Diana or my respect for the royal family,” he says.

Will the same respect be shown by Harry’s book?

Boris Becker is serving six months into his two and a half year sentence for fraud at HMP Huntercombe in Oxfordshire, and the effect on his family is devastating.

Lilly Becker, the mother of the 12-year-old son of former Wimbledon champion Amadeus, tells me: “It’s been tough, but he’s doing well because he has me as a mother.” At a party in London, the Dutch ex-model says: ‘I didn’t let this consume him, so he’ll be fine.’

Lilly, 46, who divorced Boris 54 in 2018, is optimistic about how he has adapted to life behind bars, saying: ‘I’m sure he’s going to be fine.’ Becker could be released early next year.

Life in La-La Land has lost its allure for Lady Victoria Hervey, 46, who has moved back to London after nearly two decades.

“All my friends in LA have left because it’s a hole,” the sister of the Marquess of Bristol tells me at the opening of the Frameless digital art gallery in Marble Arch. “It’s great fun when you don’t leave the house, but as soon as you leave, you see the homeless, crackheads, and half-naked women with no teeth throwing things at you.

“It’s not safe and not what it used to be.”

It can be hard to keep up with the Blairs’ frenetic money creations, not least their property empire, which includes the Buckinghamshire mansion they bought for £5.75 million and the London mansion that cost them £3.65 million.

But those are insignificant numbers compared to the $81.3 million [£73 million] which last year flooded into the Tony Blair Institute, the nonprofit he founded in 2016 “to help make globalization work for the many, not the few.”

This staggering income — nearly double that of 2020 — came from predictable sources, including foundations founded by US billionaires Larry Ellison and Bill and Melinda Gates. More came from the Blavatnik Family Foundation, founded by Sir Len Blavatnik, which made billions after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

But the Institute reports it has ended its funding relationship with Russian billionaire Moshe Kantor — sanctioned by the British government after Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

Where will the senior contestants compete for this year’s glittery ball trophy, asks former Strictly judge Dame Arlene Phillips. The oldest still in the running is former footballer Tony Adams – and he’s only 55. “There’s a lot of talent this season, but hardly any older entrants,” Dame Arlene, 79, tells me during the House Of Flamenka premiere at the Peacock Theater in London. “People should be dancing even if they’re 80, so they have to fix that. It’s about time we got an older Strictly Champion. Maybe I should go back to the show and join in.” Now there’s an idea…

Seductive lingerie is not on the menu to seduce Dawn French’s husband, Mark Bignell.

The comedienne, 64, declares that she prefers sensible, spacious, bargains. ‘I’m going to Par Market, in Cornwall, where you can buy big trousers, five for the price of three,’ says The Vicar Of Dibley star. ‘They are beautiful and comfortable. I also like a Winceyette nightgown.”

Agent Provocateur, eat your heart!

Air travel was once chic, but flying on a budget airline can be stressful. That must explain Bob Geldof’s behavior after his easyJet flight from Gatwick landed in Toulon, France on Wednesday, his 71st birthday.

The rock star started yelling, “Open the damn door” to the stunned staff, as he stood outside the main terminal building, knocked on the locked door and waved his arms in frustration. However, he soon realized that he was not out for passport control. “He had led us in the wrong direction,” said a fellow passenger. “When the penny dropped, he led us rather sheepishly and then to the right door.”

He couldn’t hide his identity, as he was wearing a Boomtown Rats T-shirt and carrying a bag marked “BOB.” Geldof’s spokesman does not deny the incident, saying, “I can’t imagine he being sheepish.”

While she’s elated when fans copy her recipes, Cook Yourself Thin author Gizzi Erskine has been brought to a boil by what she says is “daylight robbery” by Spotify.

The audio giant, which signed a $25 million deal with the Duchess of Sussex, has previously streamed Sex, Lies & DM Slides, a podcast series about modern love and dating that aristocratic TV chef Gizzi (right) co-hosted with her boyfriend and conceived, model and writer Sydney Lima, 29.

But no longer: Gizzi, 43, declares herself “shocked and horrified” after learning the podcast will continue — but hosted by social media stars Saffron Barker, 22, and Anastasia Kingsnorth, 21 (pictured below).

“Don’t set our format and our name,” Gizzi whimpers. “We made it (size and name) in my kitchen in a few months.”

A Spotify spokesperson tells me it “takes intellectual property extremely seriously,” “Sex, Lies & DM Slides is a full Spotify Original podcast, including name and format,” he adds.
