Joanna Gaines got emotional as her son, Duke, turned 16 and also got his driver’s license in a new Instagram post uploaded on Saturday.

The Fixer Upper star, 46 – whose husband Chip Gaines recently faced backlash after claiming that “everyone has money” – could be seen decorating ahead of a birthday party for her third eldest child.

The TV personality shares Drake, 19, Ella, 17, Duke, 16, Emmie, 14, and Crew, five, with husband Chip – who she tied the knot with in 2003.

“I want them to see the highs and the lows, so if they’re worried about school or relationships, they know it’s a safe place for them to come to me,” the HGTV star continued.

Of her children’s growing older, she said she is “reminded not to take these moments for granted.”

The mother-of-five also revealed that her children are very supportive, saying: “They encourage me when I walk out the door and say, ‘Mom, you’ve got this. Just be yourself, have fun.’ Sometimes I feel like they are the parents.’

Last year, Joanna and husband Chip reached a big milestone of their own, celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary.

Joanna – who previously confessed to having a ‘midlife crisis’ after her son went off to university – also reflected on her marriage to Chip, saying: ‘We’ve had so much change in our lives, and the proof is there: change is difficult. , but it’s always beautiful.’
