Turkish football is rocked by more violence as ‘Fenerbahce manager’s son brawls with Galatasaray official’ in shocking scenes just two months after players were attacked by fans

Turkish football is again plagued by violence after the latest rivalry between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe.

The two sides are part of one of the biggest rivalries in world football and went head-to-head on Sunday as the former looked to win the Super Lig title for the second season in a row.

However, they had to wait until the final day, when Fenerbahce came out on top, winning 1-0 thanks to a goal from former Leicester defender Caglar Soyuncu, giving them a glimmer of hope of winning the title themselves.

Three points separate the teams, with Galatasaray facing Konyaspor on the final day and their rivals taking on Istanbulspor at the bottom.

However, football matters as Sunday’s match was marred by chaotic scenes after the final whistle involving the away manager’s son.

In footage shared on social media, the son of Ismail Kartal, who is in his third spell in charge of the club, is apparently involved in a brawl with another man in the middle of the pitch.

A huge crowd can be seen gathering as they try to break up the pair, with Emre Kartal, 21, appearing to take a few punches before being dragged away.

The man he was arguing with turned out to be Galatasaray stadium manager Ali Celikkiran, who could be seen being taken from the scene.

Emre is a footballer himself and previously played for the Fenerbahce youth team.

It is believed the brawl started from the away end, with a flag with the club’s logo on it being unfurled to pose for photographs after the full-time whistle, which Celikkiran is believed to have taken exception to in an attempt to grab the flag.

Turkish media report this SabahFormer Fenerbahce chief Hulusi Belgu grabbed Celikkiran by the hair to the ground as President Ali Koc told Galatasaray Eray Yagzan, who according to Hurrywas also involved in the fight, that ‘if you don’t get out of here, you will be beaten’.

According to The mirrorMeanwhile, players from both sides were involved in a pre-match confrontation when Fenerbahce star Mert Hakan mocked the home fans and showed off the badge on his kit.

It is said that one of the home players involved, Kerem Akturkoglu, reportedly called Hakan a ‘coward’.

The latest incident of violence in the competition came two months after Fenerbahce voted to withdraw from the competition after their players were attacked by Trabzonspor fans.

Chaotic scenes unfolded after Trabzonspor supporters tried to attack Fenerbahçe players as they stormed the pitch after their Super Lig match on March 17.

Thugs entering the playing field brandished weapons and even picked up corner flags to attack the visiting team as they celebrated their victory.

Even at half-time, missiles rained from the stands, leaving goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic bleeding after being hit by a coin. Edin Dzeko and Dusan Tadic were also hit.
