Emma Stone has sweet reaction to being called her birth name by a reporter at Cannes Film Festival
Emma Stone reacted very sweetly on Saturday when a reporter called her by her real first name.
In response to a journalist shouting out “Emily” during a press conference at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival for her upcoming film Kinds of Kindness, the La La Land actress, 35, smiled brightly when she heard her name.
She then turned to the film’s director, Yorgos Lanthimos, and said excitedly, “That’s my name!”
The moment comes just weeks after the two-time Oscar winner revealed that she prefers to use her real name when possible.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporterthe performer, who changed her name years ago because another Emily Stone was already registered with SAG, admitted that she felt like she just couldn’t be called Emma “anymore.”

She turned to the film’s director, Yorgos Lanthimos, and said excitedly, “That’s my name!”
‘As I get to know them, the people I work with do too [call me Emily],’ she said.
When asked if she would correct a fan who called her Emily, and not Emma, Stone said, “No. That would be so nice. I’d like to be Emily.’
Emma is in Cannes to promote her upcoming film, Kinds of Kindness. The film marks her fifth collaboration with Yorgos.
The two have worked together on her Oscar-winning role in Poor Things and on the recently announced Begonia, which will be her fifth film with the Greek filmmaker.
The film is a three-part fable in which ‘A submissive office worker (Jesse Plemons) lets his boss dictate everything from what he wears to the woman he marries.
‘In the next part, the same actor takes on a different role and plays a cop who mourns the disappearance of his wife. When she shows up again (Stone), he’s less than thrilled when she tries to dominate him in the bedroom.
“Finally, a woman (also Stone) gives up her marriage to follow a kinky cult leader (Willem Dafoe) who has tasked her with finding an elusive faith healer,” said Variety.
The film premiered on Friday at the annual French Riviera Film Festival.
