Heart-stopping moment firefighters rescue six-year-old boy cowering on fourth-floor balcony using only a precariously-balanced ladder as apartment goes up in flames in Brazil

This is the heartbreaking moment a six-year-old boy was rescued by firefighters from a balcony fire in Brazil.

Firefighters came to rescue the little boy who was cowering on the fourth-floor balcony.

They managed to save him by dangerously balancing a ladder as the apartment went up in flames.

The boy’s 38-year-old mother was also rescued with burns on more than 60 percent of her body.

Eight other people were also on the fourth floor of the building but were unharmed, according to fire officials.

The little boy, aged six, was trapped on the edge of his balcony when it went up in flames. Firefighters bravely balanced ladders in an attempt to save him as he cowered behind a TV antenna.

A video clip shows the terrifying moment the little boy was rescued from the edge of a balcony where he cowered as flames engulfed the apartment where he lived with his mother.

The little boy can be seen clinging to the wiring and hiding behind a Sky antenna outside his apartment.

As he stands there, with sirens blaring and people shouting, he wipes his eyes and face before an upstairs neighbor leans out the window and tries to shout at the scared little boy.

As the flames rage in the apartment, the boy crouches down to hide behind the TV antenna.

Black smoke billows from the flat and engulfs the houses on the top floor as the little boy stands petrified on the edge of the balcony.

A neighbor from the ground floor apartment ends up on his balcony for a moment and watches in horror as the little boy stands there.

He returns with two firefighters who gesticulate wildly and begin climbing on balcony furniture in a desperate attempt to reach the child.

The firefighter then climbs onto the apartment windowsill and hoists himself to the balcony above, clinging to balconies and pipes as he reaches for the little boy who screams in fear.

Another rescuer then pulls up a ladder from below, which is handed to him by men on the ground. The team of six then attempt to place the ladder precariously against the wall and rest it on the balcony below, while the small arch cowers in fear.

With the ladder secured, a brave firefighter slowly climbs the precariously balanced ladder as a team of rescuers holds him safely.

He lures the six-year-old boy out of hiding while people from the upstairs apartments drop clothes from the windows.

The fearless firefighter grabs the child and cradles him in his chest before carefully descending the ladder with the little boy in his arms to a team below who reach up with outstretched arms to pull the boy to safety on the balcony below as cheers and applause resounds. a watching crowd.

The fire struck an apartment building in Serra Gaúcha, southern Brazil, on Tuesday, May 14.

The fire seriously injured a 38-year-old woman, who was taken to hospital and treated in intensive care for severe burns.

Her son suffered injuries and burns to his arms and legs, but was released after medical attention.

The eight others who lived on the fourth floor where the fire broke out were unharmed and managed to escape.
