Shocking moment ‘Train Karen’ puts her FEET on another passenger after she refused to move seats
A woman has been branded ‘train Karen’ after a now viral video showed her putting her feet on another passenger’s seat – and refusing to put them down.
The video, initially posted to TikTok by user Joséphine Alarie and reposted to X, captured the moment an elderly woman refused to remove her feet from a train seat while traveling from Harlem to Connecticut.
In a video posted by Joséphine, she explains that she takes the Metro North train from New York City every evening around 9:50 PM to get to work upstate.
“It’s always quite full at this time of night,” she explained in the 10-minute video, adding that she had to go through a few carriages before she could find a place to sit.
The video, initially posted to TikTok by Joséphine Alarie (pictured) and reposted to X, captured the moment an elderly woman refused to remove her feet from a train seat.
The woman told her that there were “plenty” of other places she could sit and that she wanted to put her feet up, and when Joséphine said no, she started insulting her and mumbling to herself.
Joséphine eventually found a spot to sit, opposite an older lady who was sitting on a two-seater across from another two-seater.
She recalled that “there was no one sitting next to her or in front of her,” and that there was “plenty of room” when she sat down.
The second Josephine sat down. She said the woman began to have difficulty where she was sitting.
“As soon as I sit down, she leans into me and says, ‘Can you move to the seat next to you?’” she recalls.
‘She says, “I want to put my feet where you are.”‘
Joséphine said she looked at her in surprise and told the older lady not to move.
The woman responded that there were “plenty” of other places she could sit and that she wanted to put her feet up. When Joséphine said no, she started insulting her and mumbling to herself.
According to Joséphine, the woman then begins to slide down in her chair, so that she is fully extended and her feet are now touching her, with her feet touching her legs.
Although Joséphine was angry about the situation, many commenters on social media said that both women were acting like children and that she should have just moved out.
‘I said, “Sorry ma’am, but you’re touching me. I would really appreciate it if you didn’t,” she recalled.
The older woman apparently responded, “Oh well, you’re sitting where I want my feet to be, so I’m going to keep touching you until you move.”
Joséphine said the woman then escalated the situation by putting her foot on the seat next to her.
‘When I started screaming, she stuck her foot in my face, [her] the dirty bottom of her sole,” she said, perplexed.
Then the conductor passes by, where the woman – who says she is 75 – continues to put her foot on her, causing Joséphine to say angrily, “How bloody dare you.”
According to Joséphine, she suffers from anxiety and had an anxiety attack while the argument was taking place, which the woman mocked.
The police are eventually called, but according to Joséphine, all she got was a “slap on the damn wrist” and the TikTok creator was moved to another chair.
Joséphine later posted an update saying she discovered the woman’s name and went to the police to report her for harassment and assault, but was told there was nothing they could do to help her.
‘[They said they can’t help me] because she didn’t cause me any physical harm, I’m not hurt, she didn’t molest me [using a deep verbal threat]and technically it is “out of their jurisdiction as the NYPD to handle the situation because there are police officers on the MTA Metro North trains dealing with this.”
DailyMail.com has contacted Joséphine for comment.
Although Joséphine was appalled by the situation, many commenters on social media said that both women were acting like children and that she should have just moved out.
“Lol, I can’t believe I spent the time. Grow up and move on next time,” one person wrote.
“Honestly, I think it would have been easier for you to just move. However, I believe that when the police got involved, they should have moved her. Not you. She was the problem and they should have kicked her off the train,” another commented.
“So they’re both Karens. That’s what I thought,” a third person laughed.
“Why would you sit directly across from someone when there are other seats?” someone else asked.
“Yes, she was obnoxious, but so are you, and you just posted this b/c (because) you knew you would get a lot of views on this b/c (because) there’s a lot of yelling. You’re both annoying.’
