ACCC recall for popular Bunnings product Ryobi model Airwave 2-in-1 brad nailer/stapler over ‘laceration’ safety fears

A popular nail gun sold in Bunnings stores nationwide has been urgently recalled amid fears it could accidentally fire and cause cuts.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has recalled the Ryobi model Airwave 2-in-1 brad nailer/stapler due to a fault.

The multi-tool is equipped with a mechanical locking function designed to prevent accidental operation.

The product watchdog has a warning The safety mechanism on the multi-tool can jam and cause a nail or staple to come loose just by squeezing the trigger, rather than the usual two-step ‘operating’ process.

“There is a risk of cuts if the nailer/stapler accidentally discharges,” the statement said.

The nail gun, Ryobi’s model RA-NBS1832-S Airwave 2-in-1 brad nailer and stapler, was produced between October 2021 and March 2024 and sold nationally in Bunnings stores.

The ACCC states that affected products will display a date code on the side of the nail magazine between week (W) 43 and year (Y) 2021 to week (W) 9 and year (Y) 2024.
